Winnipeg City Route 17

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Winnipeg City Route 17, also known as Chief Peguis Trail, is a short at-grade expressway in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The highway connects Winnipeg City Routes 52 (Main Street) and 42 (Henderson Highway). It is the shortest and lowest numbered city route, being only about 1.5 km (about 1 mile) long.

While Chief Peguis Trail is currently very short, there are plans to expand it, likely as an expressway. It is proposed that the route will be extended west to connect with city routes 180 (McPhillips Street) and 90 (Brookside Blvd.) To the east it would be extended to Route 20 (Lagimodiere Blvd.), and potentially farther to connect with an extended Plessis Road. Despite its short length, the speed limit is 80 km/h (50 mph).

Chief Peguis Trail crosses the Red River. The bridge over the river is called the Kildonan Settlers Bridge, and features names of the many settlers of the area on each street light.
