Wingull (キャモメ Kyamome?) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media created by Satoshi Tajiri. The purpose of Wingull in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]. Wingull can be found wherever there is water.
The name "Wingull" comes from combining the words wing and gull (as in "seagull"). The name "Kyamome" is a play on kamome, the Japanese word for "seagull".

[edit] Biology
A common annoyance to those surfing from place to place, it shows up on every water route. It has the habit of carrying prey and valuables in its beak, and has been known to hide them in all sorts of locations. Wingull rides the winds and flies as if it were skating across the sky.
Wingull's design, and thus its name, is clearly based on seagulls. It also has an uncanny resemblance of the seagulls (known as Goonies) that appear in Yoshi's Story.
[edit] In the video games
In Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, wild Wingull can be found on almost every sea route when Surfing. It can also be caught early on in the game on land routes, but it is less common. This Pokemon is useful for defeating the first Gym Leader in Hoenn, Roxanne.
Also in these games, the character Mr. Briney's Wingull, Peeko, is kidnapped by either Team Magma or Team Aqua (Magma in Ruby, Aqua in Sapphire) and rescued by the hero character. In thanks, Mr. Briney will take the hero from Petalburg City to Dewford Town and Slateport City on his boat.
Wingull and its evolved form, Pelipper, are a dual water/flying type. This means they have a double weakness to electricity.
[edit] In the anime
Mr. Briney and Peeko appear in the episodes On a Wingull and a Prayer! and Sharpedo Attack!!. Mr. Briney ferries Ash and his friends to Dewford Town.
[edit] In other media
Mr. Briney and Peeko also appear in the manga series Pokémon Adventures. During an earthquake, Ruby was knocked unconscious and taken out to sea by a wave; Peeko found him and alerted Mr. Briney, saving Ruby's life.
