Wingello, New South Wales
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wingello is a village in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia. It is about equidistant between Sydney, the capital of NSW, and Canberra, the nation’s capital.
The village comprises a general store and post office, rural fire brigade, and village hall. It is mostly agrarian.
[edit] History
Wingello was decimated by the Chatsbury bushfires of 1965, but has since recovered somewhat. Its modern resurgence is due in large part to the record high prices in the Sydney real estate market at the turn of the 21st century, which forced first time homeowners, investors and pensioners (retirees) to seek land and houses in outlying areas.
The Southern Village View, a quarterly magazine, is published in Wingello.
