[edit] Transformers: Energon (Superlink, 2004)
Optimus Prime's Powerlinx partner, and a homage design to Japan's G1 era Star Saber. He can combine with Optimus Prime, and in Japan this form is called Wing Convoy. He was originally a character named Wing Dagger, but after being crushed by a falling Energon Tower, was rebuilt by Rad and Primus as Wing Saber.
As Wing Dagger, he had been a prison guard. After his fellow guard and friend Padlock was taken hostage and then murdered by Decepticon escapee Shockblast, he joined Optimus Prime's team in order to bring him to justice.
Transformers: Energon Promotional Comic #4 - On Earth Megatron, with the aid of Snowcat, Shockwave, Mirage and Demolisher, has cornered Optimus Prime and a wounded Hot Shot. Optimus refuses to give up. The other Autobot reinforcements are over ten minutes away when Wing Saber arrives. Megatron is shocked to learn the power of Optimus Prime when he Powerlinx with Wing Saber and turns back all the Decepticons, then Megatron. The Autobots then arrive and Optimus thanks Wing Saber for his help.
Hasbro Motto: "Courage and fortitude are the foundations of a true warrior."
Takara Motto: "Using this body, I gain victory."
Hasbro Tech Spec: Wing Saber served as a first class transport for members of Cybertron's high council before he discovered his true calling as a warrior. His incredible speed and ariel skills have made him a valued member of the Autobot team. In jet mode, his stealth abilities allow for long range attack that have given the Autobots the upper hand during many offensive maneuvers. Wing Saber takes great pride in his standing with the Autobots and has proven his loyalty and devotion to Optimus Prime on many occasions. His ability to powerlinx with Optimus gives their combined robot form impressive flight capabilities. Megatron has kept an admiring eye on Wing Saber and hopes to someday sway this great Autobot warrior to the side of the Decepticons.
Takara Tech Spec: A brave Cybertron warrior, who would self-sacrifice to gain victory. His union with Grand Convoy is made possible with his new combination spark, which enable them to power up into Wing Convoy to have flight ability. Wing Convoys leaping attacks markedly make him the strongest super-link soldier.(He is Voiced by Colin Murdock)
[edit] Transformers: Cybertron (Galaxy Force, 2005)
In Transformers: Cybertron, Wing Saber (Sonic Bomber in Japan) returned to his former partners with a new, somewhat arrogant, outlook on life. After a falling out in the past involving the life of a human astronaut, Wing Saber took off into space and had been missing for most of the time since the ending of the Powerlinx Battles. He returned after encountering the Omega Frequency which was broadcasting to Cybertron after the Speed Planet key was inserted into the Omega Lock. It is not known exactly why, but some speculate that it was due to Wing Saber's arrogance, the combination with Prime he once had in Energon was lost. Once returning to Earth, Wing Saber would have a brief conflict with Optimus Prime before making peace and learning to combine with his commander once again, in order to meet the threat of Supreme Starscream.
Wing Saber would remain a trusted ally to Optimus Prime once their conflict was resolved. He ventured to Gigantion where he helped lead the Autobots to victory. After the demise of Galvatron and the black hole, Wing Saber chose to return to space on a personal adventure. This event would not last long as he was soon to encounter Starscream, now a powerful champion of Unicron, in deep space, signaling for assistance. In the closing credits, Wing Saber can be seen battling a flame-empowered Starscream, along with Mudflap and Landmine.(He is Voiced by Colin Murdock and Sam Vincent)
Hasbro Tech Spec: WING SABER formed a close bond with OPTIMUS PRIME during the POWERLINX BATTLES. Their friendship was forged in the treacherous interior of the unconscious UNICRON, when they first combined to form the powerful Sonic Wing mode. Though he is a canny warrior with a keen tactical mind and wisdom beyond his years, he is still eager to prove himself to OPTIMUS PRIME and the other AUTOBOTS. As one of the few AUTOBOTS with a warp system capable of interstellar flight without the use of a space bridge, he is often assigned duties as a lone flanker, attacking enemy positions from behind. With weapons systems and armor to rival the most legendary warriors of CYBERTRON, he is more than up to the task!
[edit] Sonic Bomber
In Galaxy Force, the original Japanese version of Cybertron, Sonic Bomber was a new character, and had nothing to do with Wing Saber. (Sonic Bomber is an homage to another Japanese-exclusive Autobot.) Instead, Sonic Bomber was a former soldier under Galaxy Convoy's command, who soon rebelled and went his own ways before reuniting with Galaxy Convoy after Starscream became Super Starscream.
Motto: "It is common sense to link up to the sky!"
Takara Tech Spec: He flies at the speed of sound, while at the same time, as he puts it – tidies up the enemy. He is the expert of fighting out of the Cybertron troops. Often there are times where my opinion is not agreeable to such a rough character, but when uniting with him, a great power is released, and it is evident that Sonic Bomber wishes for peace in outer space. I have become Sonic Convoy, with super speed and sword of justice I will destroy the Destron threat.
In the plot of Galaxy Force, the Cybertrons faced off against Super Starscream. Liger Convoy was defeated and broken apart. Sonic Bomber failed to defeat Super Starscream as well. Seeing the power of linking up Sonic Bomber suggested he link with Galaxy Convoy. After a few failed attempts they joined together into Sonic Convoy.
