Winfrith

The Winfrith Atomic Energy Authority site existed from the 1960's until its shutdown in 1990, although decommissioning of the site will be ongoing for some time. The area was the site of nine reactors including the experimental Dragon reactor. It is now an extensive technology park and home to the headquarters of the Dorset police; the Dorset police helicopter is based here. The site covers an area of ground on Bovington Heath to the west of the village of Wool between the A352 road and the Bournemouth to Weymouth railway line.
