Windsor Cricket Club
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Windsor Cricket Club was formed in 1995 as a merger between great rivals Windsor Victoria and Windsor and Eton Cricket Clubs. This makes Windsor one of the newest cricket clubs in the Thames Valley Area but still maintaining a rich history inherited from the two previous clubs.
The club plays its home games at the Home Park, Windsor. With the world famous Windsor Castle in the background it is regarded as one of the most scenic cricket grounds in the country. The club also has another royal connection as HRH Prince Phillip is the patron.
On a Saturday the club runs four teams in the Thames Valley League with the first XI playing in Division 1. Two teams run on a Sunday in league competition in the Maidenhead Advertiser Sunday League. Free weekends permitting the side plays friendly fixtures against other local teams as well as entering midweek competitions throughout the summer. The club also runs a number of Colts teams known as The Windsor Sharks from under 11's up to under 17's.
Windsor Cricket Club has a vibrant social side with a number of social events taking place throughout the year. Aside from the organised events the presence of a number of young players makes for some interesting, if a little messy, Saturday nights. The club have undertaken cricket tours to Australia, the Netherlands, Ireland as well as taking part in cricket festivals and hosting touring sides mainly due to their splendid location.
