Winchester is a village in Adams County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,025 at the 2000 census. The name of the surrounding township is also Winchester.

Winchester is located at GR1.
(38.940248, -83.653174)According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²). 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (0.74%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,025 people, 410 households, and 280 families residing in the village. The population density was 147.7/km² (381.8/mi²). There were 448 housing units at an average density of 64.5/km² (166.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.02% White, 0.20% Native American, 0.39% Asian, and 0.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.49% of the population.
There were 410 households out of which 34.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.5% were non-families. 27.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the village the population was spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 89.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.4 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $32,344, and the median income for a family was $36,750. Males had a median income of $33,036 versus $19,028 for females. The per capita income for the village was $16,711. About 9.5% of families and 14.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.2% of those under age 18 and 18.4% of those age 65 or over.
[edit] Food and Gas
In the fall of 2006, Winchester's first "real" food joint moved into town. A Subway moved into an small building next to the Marathon gas station on Route 136. Many locals were excited to see the new fastfood place, saying it was a sign of sure economic growth in the small town. There are two other restuarnts in town, including PJ's Railroad Restaurant on Route 136 and the "Dairy Whip" on the northern side of town. There is talk of Speedway building a new gas station across the street from the current Marathon gas station, but construction has been delayed.

There is a Budget Host Inn in town. This two story motel features smoking and non-smoking rooms, cable TV, and free coffee for each of the 20 rooms. There is also semi-truck parking availible. No pets are permitted in the motel. All of Winchester's restaurants except the "Dairy Whip" are within walking distance of the motel.
