Battle of Britain II Wings of Victory is a combat flight simulation created by Shockwave Productions,Inc. and released in 2006.This simulation features aerial combat in the Battle of Britain during the Second World War in 1940 with the British RAF versus the German Luftwaffe. This game a Microsoft Windows based title remains very popular among serious PC historical World War II flight sim enthusiasts and is spawning more sequels (Flying Tigers (computer game)) announced at Shockwaves Forum).Battle of Britain II can be played either as a flight simulator or as a novel interactive wargame with extensive help.Battle of Britain II WOV is a hugely vamped up remake of Rowan's Battle of Britain combat flight simulation by empire Interactive both extensively in graphics, sophisticated realistic flight models and gameplay. It features hundreds of warplanes and huge aerial raids and battles in the air.The simulation has great in game ambience and seems so realistic it's scary.I like the little people and military forces on the ground too.AA fire and FLAK bursts are pretty realistic. The in flight radio traffic whether in the German language or English (British accent) language seems pretty realistic. So does the roaring engines of other nearby aircraft seem realistic like being at a real airshow.Aerial dogfights are pretty difficult now with the latest free patch. As of yet the simulation player cannot Pilot,Copilot or be a bombardier on the German Luftwaffe bombers but can man gunnery positions on those planes. The available warplanes that can be flown in the simulation are the RAF Supermarine Spitfire (2 variants), the Hawker Hurricane (2 variants), the Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Bf-109, the Messerschmitt Bf-110 and the Junkers JU87 Stuka.Other aircraft featured are the Luftwaffe bombers Junkers Ju-88 the Heinkel He-111 and the Dornier Do-17 also including the RAF Bristol Blenheim bomber and the Boulton Paul Defiant. The simulation installation is on one CDROM and after the install it doesn't require the CD to run the application. The limited edition version of Battle of Britain II WOV comes with a historical DVD on the Battle of Britain. It also includes the Wings of Power B17 Flying Fortress for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004.The simulation has had many patches since its release and Patch 2.05 was released at Shockwave Productions website as of December 8, 2006.Patch 2.05 and mutiskin will let the user or other 3rd party user modify the artwork insignia and camouflage pattern for different aircraft for historical representation.BoB II WOV comes with a 136 page Operations Manual but the manual has been updated several times with each improvement. It comes with a very handy Map and Keyboard overlay in the title box and new improved maps are being introduced with Patch 2.05. A very handy input device for this simulation is called Track IR and it's amazing how this improves gameplay in this simulation if one can afford this 3rd party accessory. It would be better perhaps if virtual reality (3D) goggles had come of age in high resolution but Track IR is a decent inexpensive substitute during the meantime.
