[edit] Biography
He started playing youth football at Montfaucon-en-Velay before joining the region's flagship club AS Saint-Étienne. After honing his skills at Saint-Étienne, Sagnol moved on to AS Monaco where he performed quite well, winning Ligue 1 with the club in 2000. Later that same year, he was picked up by Bayern Munich, making the right wingback position his own quite early on. He is a solid defender not afraid to go forward, and very capable in defense. With Bayern, he won the Bundesliga in 2001, 2003 and 2005, as well as the Champions League in 2001. It took a bit longer to get into France's starting lineup however, mostly playing second fiddle to Lilian Thuram, but during the 2006 World Cup he was the first choice right-back for France and went on to win a runners-up medal with Les Bleus. With Oliver Kahn set to retire in the next couple years, Sagnol is said to be next in line to captain the many times over Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich.
[edit] Personal Life
Sagnol is currently living in Munich with his girlfriend, Laetitia, and their two children, Chiara and Sandro.
