Willow Run Assembly

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Willow Run Assembly was a General Motors automobile factory near Ypsilanti, Michigan, United States. It is located at 2625 Tyler Rd.

Originally built by Ford to assemble bomber planes for World War II, the plant was leased to the Kaiser-Frazer Corporation after the war. General Motors bought the plant in 1952 to assemble Hydra-Matic transmissions, an activity which has continued as Willow Run Transmission.

Production automobiles began in 1959 with the Chevrolet Corvair and ended in 1992 with the B-bodies. Willow Run also built the Chevrolet Nova (1962-1979) and X-bodies (1980-1985).
