Williamsville East High School is one of the three Williamsville High Schools located in the Williamsville Central School District, the other two being Williamsville North and Williamsville South. It is notable for having open classrooms; it was originally constructed without any interior walls on the upper two floors. Dividers have since been erected in many of the classrooms. Williamsville East is also noted for its English curriculum, in which students in 10th through 12th grades are grouped together to select classes on an elective-based system. The English department also has dedicated the fourth quarter to Shakespeare, reading a play (tragedy/comedy/history - it rotates every year) and then each class in a period being given a segment of the play to perform.
Williamsville East High School is also acclaimed for supporting a very fine music program led by Dr. Stephen Shewan, Mr. Wayne Moose, and Ms. Maureen Reilly.
WEHS has had some famous attendees, most notably John Stevens, American Idol contestant and Janet Snyder, who is one of the hosts on the radio station Kiss 98.5 (WKSE).
