William Willett (Royal Household)

Commander William Willett, OBE MVO DSC Royal Navy was Private Secretary to His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, consort of Queen Elizabeth II 1970-1976.

Willett was born in 1919, and educated at Winchester College and the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. He joined the Royal Navy in 1937. He was sailing master on the royal yacht Bloodhound 1967-1968.

Willett received the DSC in 1942. He was made a OBE in 1964 and an MVO in 1969. He died in 1976.
