From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
George Francis William Child Villiers, 10th Earl of Jersey (Created 1697), Viscount Grandison of Limerick, Viscount Villiers of Dartford and Baron Villiers of Hoo. (b. 5 February 1976). On the death of his father, George Henry, The Viscount Villiers (b. 29.8.48), from a heart attack on 19th of March 1998 at the age of 48 he briefly became Viscount Grandison. This was in accordance with the family's tradition whereby each heir takes alternatively the Villiers and Grandison viscountancies. He succeeded his grandfather the 9th Earl in August 1998 aged just 22. He took his seat in The House of Lords in 1999 shortly before the reformation of the House. His Mother, Sandra Jane (nee Hooper-Valpy) Hubbard, re-married in 2001 to Raymond Hubbard in Devon where they now live. On the 16th of August 2003 he married, in Jersey, Marianne Simonne de Guelle daughter of Peter and Jeanette de Guelle. He has no issue at present.
His heir presumptive is his half-brother The Hon. Jamie Charles Child Villiers.
The 10th Earl of Jersey is the heir to Lady Frances Stanley, second daughter of Ferdinando Stanley, 5th Earl of Derby, and thus the genealogical representative of Lady Eleanor Brandon, the youngest daughter of Mary of England, Duchess of Suffolk and Dowager Queen of France. If the marriage of Lady Catherine Grey, sister of 'Queen Jane', is invalid and her son Edward Seymour, Lord Beauchamp not legitimate, then in accordance with the parliament-sanctioned testament of Henry VIII of England and the succession order there stipulated, the present Earl of Jersey would be king of England and Ireland, possessor of the throne. However in 1601, the throne was taken by James VI of Scotland.
