William Rupert Davies

(William) Rupert Davies (12 September 1879 – 11 March 1967) was a Canadian author, editor, newspaper publisher, and politician. Following a successful career as publisher of the Kingston Whig-Standard, Davies was appointed to the Canadian Senate on 19 November 1942 on the recommendation of William Lyon Mackenzie King. Sitting as a Liberal, he represented the senatorial division of Kingston, Ontario, a position he held until his death. Later in life, he was appointed to the ceremonial post of High Sheriff of Montgomeryshire in Wales. Davies was the father of noted author Robertson Davies.
