William Matthews (head of school)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William R. Matthews, Jr. is the twelfth and current rector of St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire. He was appointed interim rector on May 27, 2005 when then-current rector Craig Anderson announced his departure, and on January 10, 2006, his appointment was made permanent.

Matthews graduated from St. Paul's in 1961 from Bowdoin College in 1965. Immediately after graduating from Bowdoin, he returned to St. Paul's, and has, since then, served the school in myriad capacities. Though he is – unlike most prior rectors of St. Paul's – not a clergyman, Matthews has been, by turns, a faculty member in the school's Classics division, a college counsellor, the school's director of admissions, the Vice Rector for students, director of the school's alumni association, director of the development office – the office responsible for raising money – and coach of the boys' varsity ice hockey team.[1]
