William Jessup University

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

William Jessup University is a non-denominational Christian college located in Rocklin, California.

The University got its start as San Jose Bible College in 1939, in San Jose. William Jessup was the school's first President. By 1951, with the school expanding and the San José State University across the street encroaching, San Jose Bible College moved to a larger location. By 1960, a women's dormitory was opened.

William Jessup retired in 1960 and was replaced by Alvan L. Tiffin. The current President is Bryce Jessup, the son of the original President.

In 1989, the school was renamed San Jose Christian College. In 2002, the school was regionally accredited by WASC. As the school's enrollment increased, it became obvious that it was going to have to expand, but as property was at a premium in the Santa Clara Valley, it was decided to move to Rocklin, in the California Central Valley in April 2003. The name was changed to William Jessup University d.b.a San Jose Christian College. When the institution move to Rocklin in 2004 the name San Jose Christian College was no longer used.

The school retains a branch campus in San Jose that serves solely the degree completion students.
