William H. Machen

William H. Machen (1832 - 1911), was a painter and teacher. He was born in the Netherlands and emigrated to the United States in 1847 settling first in Michigan where he taught art at Detroit College and Sacred Heart Convent at Grosse Pointe. He exhibited his work at the Pennsylvania Academy, the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, and the Detroit Museum of Art.
