William G. Twyman

William G. Twyman was the mayor of Poteau, Oklahoma from 1940–1942. Mr. Twyman was also instrumental in the development of the Wister Dam which is the main water source for Leflore County and was selected as the State Insurance Commissioner for the state of Oklahoma by Gov. Robert Kerr and served in that capacity from 1942–1948.
Twyman Park in Poteau was named in his honor. The park is registered with the National Historical Places. The park contains one of the few rock construction bath houses in the country.
