William Burges (1827–1881) was an English architect and designer whose influence continues today.

- The Church of Christ the Consoler at Skelton-on-Ure, built as a 'twin-church' to St Mary's at Fountains Abbey (see above), and built in memory of a brother-in-law of the Marquis of Ripon who was taken hostage in 1870 in Greece and eventually murdered
