Willard Building

Willard Building is a classroom building located on the campus of Penn State University on Pollock Road in University Park, Pennsylvania named for Professor Joseph Moody Willard.

It is located in the center of campus, across from Schwab Auditorium. Willard Building was built on the site of the former Armory Building on Penn State's campus. [1] The majority of students at Penn State usually have at least one class in the building during the course of their studies.

[edit] Classrooms

The original facility, now commonly referred to as "Willard West", was built in 1949, and was expanded to the east sometime around 1975. The classrooms in "Willard East" are typically large and can seat somewhere around 30 people per classroom, whereas the classrooms in "Willard West" are much smaller with the typical capacity of around 10-15 people per classroom.

The Penn State Computer Store is located in 12 Willard building.

The north side of the building (shown in picture) was recently renovated as the class of 2004's graduation gift.

The mall (with the trees) next to Willard Building extends south to Allen Street in Downtown State College. Going north on the mall will take you to Pattee Library.

  • Outside of the east exit of the Willard building, Gary Cattell, known as "The Willard Preacher" by students, stands and speaks to students who are entering, exiting or passing the building on several topics. These topics include evolution, sexuality/homosexuality, abortion, and role of women in society. His views can best be described as that of Eastern Orthodox.
  • The Willard Building was mentioned as a safe house on Night of the Living Dead.
