[edit] Wilford Church
Wilford Church is a fellowship of people [part of the wider family of the Church of England that meets and worships and prays together in Wilford, Nottingham. More than 300 people of all ages consider themselves part of our Wilford Church Family. The church's formal name is St Wilfrid’s and it has a parish area that covers Wilford, Silverdale and a large part of the Compton Acres estate. Although we meet in an ancient church building, our worship and life has a contemporary and relevant flavour that seeks to remain faithful to the Christan Faith as given through the Bible. We are committed to being involved with our local community, especially our two Church of England Schools.
Saint Wilfrid lived in the area from 634 to 709 A.D. He was for many years Bishop of York and his diocese included Nottinghamshire. He baptised in this area and it is quite likely that he baptised in the ford near the present-day Wilford church.
The church retains a strongly historic character, shielded from the encroaching development of Nottingham by the River Trent. It remains however, what it has been for centuries; the focus of a living, worshipping Christian congregation.
