Wild Turkey Breakfast
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wild Turkey Breakfast (literally, the Breakfast of Bourbon and Bagels) is a holiday in the Ivy League calendar, usually observed on the Saturday before the fourth Thursday in November, which coincides with The Game. The holiday is more commonly referred to as WTB. According to the WTB gospels, two Harvard freshmen first consumed bourbon and bagels together on November 22, 1992. Early WTB acolytes celebrated the holiday in small groups in dorm rooms and parking lots. In its present form, WTB is largely characterized by the exchange of hugs and, subsequently, disorientation.
Although the number of followers who celebrate WTB around the world is unknown (Cf. Alcoholism), typically 100-150 dedicated drinkers attend the central gathering in New Haven or Cambridge each year.
Historians contend that WTB did not assume its present form until the introduction in the mid-1990s of diverse forms of rock music to the rites. In past years, bands such as Little Joe Cook and the Thrillers, The Rapture, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Palomar, The Fly Seville, and Sweet Jeebus have added a musical element to the consumption of whiskey and bread products.
Beginning in 2004, the WTB became an act of resistance to the status quo by aspiring Democratic Party operatives. However, the bourbon has done little to advance their cause.
