W. Greatbatch is only the inventor of the first sucessful implantable pacemaker if the "sucessful" is arbitrarily defined as "working fro 12 months". The title goes to others if the limit is set to 9 months, two weeks or two days. See the article on artificial pacemakers in wikipedia.
