[edit] "An American Politician"
Unnecessary, as it already says he was governor of Maryland in the United States.
"American" and "politican" are thus assumed and add to the article what is not needed. [[User:Tomf688|Tom]] 00:17, Oct 26, 2004 (UTC)
- Maybe, instead of "American Politician of the Democratic Party", "member of the American Democratic Party" would also be more appropriate.
- And finally, "U.S. state" (United States State) doesn't work too well, which is why I had it separated: "governor of the State of Maryland in the United States".[[User:Tomf688|Tom]] 00:32, Oct 26, 2004 (UTC)
Well, what I don't like is the way it just says Democratic Party and doesn't give the national context in the first sentence. Everyking 00:40, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- William Donald Schaefer (born November 2, 1921), a member of the American Democratic Party, has served in public office for 40 years at both the state and local level. He was the 58th governor of the State of Maryland in the United States from 1987 to 1995 and has been the State Comptroller of Maryland since 1999.
- That seems to cover the bases.
Recent Controversies Section: The source for Schaefer having written a note of apology to a young woman he had publicly leered at and (according to the present Wikipedia article) verbally harrassed is Los Angeles Times, Saturday February 18, 2006, p. A11. The brief Times article did not identify the young woman or mention that Schaefer had spoken to her.
[edit] "Uncited quotes"
I see a lot of quotes here which have no reference. For a guy whose been on the record for a lot of stupid things he said, I am tempted to remove some of the things that may be elaborations. Please cite them, or I'll remove them shortly.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dschroder (talk • contribs) 09:33, 19 September 2006 (UTC).
I didn't add the original uncited quotes, but I've added the requested footnotes and removed the citation notice. Pete 22:58, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
