[edit] William and Mary

Just a note to explain my choice of wording in his education summary -

Rives congressional bio says that he graduated from William and Mary in 1809. That is wrong, but I don't have a firm handle on the story. The letter from Madison (head of Wm and Mary) to Jefferson asking him to tutor Rives states that he was leaving the college. The story I haven't got enough verifiable detail on was that he was expelled for duelling, but Madison's letter doesn't say why Rives left.. Lou I 17:10, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
