[edit] Impressive

Whoa!!! This is amazing work. All I can say is that you've renewed my faith in Wikipedia as a growing, collaborative project. I look forward to the day when these maps are put to use!

Just one nitpick that I have: is it possible to show the coast as it exists today? The large oblong island off East Coast Park, for example, doesn't yet exist. And we don't know if it's going to exist. -- ran (talk) 20:58, May 31, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, but I now realised it was a partial "false-start", as I later found out there is a Wikipedia:WikiProject Maps, that established some guidelines on maps. There's also a group of professionals at Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Cartographers with helpful samples of maps. Luckily, I haven't start the mass production yet :P. I need some time to digest the discussion in these pages. I also realised that a map of the current land status is still required, otherwise funny things might happen (for example, Map of Election 2001 showing non-existent futuristic land). I will prepare this later, then we can decide collectively which profile base-map to use for the locator-maps.
As for the region boundaries (Figure D2), some places seem odd. For example, Lim Chu Kang is not where I thought it is, and I'm also not sure about Bukit Merah. Hopefully, I can get lots of help from others to check and highlight any error in the areas they are familiar with, and provide further references if available. Ran, as you had experience with locator-maps, if you have any advice, please let me know, thanks. -- Vsion 22:37, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Central Area, Downtown Core, etc.

I have a few requests to make. I need some locator maps for the Downtown Core, the Central Area (and its compoenents)...just to illustrate the concept that the Downtown Core is part of the Central Area, which is part of the Central Region, etc. makes it clearer to readers. I keep on having to use long-winded language to describe this concept (such as how Marina South and Marina East are not part of the Downtown Core, but part of the CBD, etc. and all these other classifications)...if we could just have some locator maps for each part of the Central Area (that has an article), and the Central Area itself, that would be good. -- Natalinasmpf 02:34, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

  • Request noted. However, this is a pretty bad time for me, but I will look into this next-next-weekend. I may not be too sure about the boundary of these areas, but will try to search for the information myself. If you have some good references ready, please list it here. Because of the relative small size of these areas, I'm thinking of a zoom-in locator map, that cover just the Central Area instead of the whole island, then we can highlight the specific areas, CBD, chinatown ,etc. which otherwise would be too small in the current locator map. --Vsion 03:01, 23 September 2005 (UTC)
To clarify: right now I'm using the 1994 Master Plan http://www.ura.gov.sg/landuse/devtguide.htm as my guide for the boundaries. So if anyone has better and more updated resource, please let me know. --Vsion 03:15, 23 September 2005 (UTC)
Ah, that's no problem, I can wait a few weeks. And yes. I was thinking zoom in - something along the lines of the locator map for Singapore, where it "zooms in" to the appropriate region as well, but the context of overall location is kept. I currently use the 2003 one, it's kind of inconvenient as it uses a plugin you have to download (eventually compatible in all browsers if you tweak it right, but IE requires the least tweaking to run it, but I guess it's useful for contractors who went to see what area their individual buildings fall in (as its interactive and you can zoom in and out). It's right here, I believe. -- Natalinasmpf 03:49, 23 September 2005 (UTC)
