Can we make some assertion like "all related pages should be classified either in Category:Seattle, WA, Category:Seattle metropolitan area, or a subcategory of one of these categories? -- Jmabel 19:31, Jun 24, 2004 (UTC)
- Done. ShadowDragon 19:43, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)
All I have to say is, well done. You've done so much already, in so little time! I'll help out as I can, but it looks like you have the actual setup, categorization, and maintenance of this large project well under control. More article creation, list-to-paragraph work, etc., for me. This is great. --Lukobe 08:13, 26 Jun 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Commerce, shopping
How granular do we want to get in describing the local economy? Would someone coming to the Seattle page want to know that QFC and Safeway (apparently) dominate the local supermarket market? If so, where should information like that go? Lukobe 23:51, 6 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- I think there might be more interest in the sort of anachronisms of the local grocery market. Particularly the subsidization of local farmers' markets and the growth of local organic chains like PCC. That Safeway and Kroger (owners of QFC & Fred Meyer) dominate the grocery market is not something that is specific to Seattle I don't think.
- Other likely suspects would include local companies like Nordstrom and Fredrick & Nelson's (no longer in business) -- Wac 04:55, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- How is the growth of organic food chains an anachronism? --Lukobe 07:14, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- The key part there was local organic chains. It's an anachronism, in my eyes, in that it is a throw back to the old days of locally owned grocery stores that had some bond to their community. This comes in sharp contrast to the standard operating procedure of big national chains that have dominated the grocery business in the last few decades (Kroger, Wal-Mart, Costco, Albertsons). Describing it as an anachronism certainly has a NPOV issue, but then this is a talk page and I thought that was okay here. Pardon if I offended.--Wac 16:37, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- No, you didn't offend, I simply didn't see the anachronism before you explained it. --Lukobe 18:36, 7 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Photos
I spent part of my lunch break yesterday wandering around taking pictures of landmarks close to my work that have articles. (Pike Place Market, Alaskan Way Viaduct, Nordstrom) I started compiling a list of things that I think I ought to photograph on my user page, but I'm wondering if it would it be useful to have a list of Seattle-area articles that would like photographs on the project page? I'm not sure if this is within the project scope so I thought I'd ask. -- wac 19:49, 11 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- Man, this has been languishing for about 2 years. Let's start a list of what photos are still needed; maybe a few of us could do some photo expeditions to fill in the blanks? - Jmabel | Talk 04:47, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Meetup

[edit] SeattleWiki
Some link spam here: Matias showed up at our Seattle-area Wikipedia meetup and gave a brief talk about the wiki he started: http://seattlewiki.org I've started a discussion over there about how the two can work together, but I just want to let people over here know that if they want to write about Seattle-area things that they don't think are notable enough for Wikipedia, they may be appropriate there. [edit] USCOTW
{{USCOTW}} was added prominently to the project page by someone who is not even a participant in this project. I do not find it a useful addition to the project page, but thought I would give people a couple of days to say whether they find it useful, rather than remove it unilterally. Thoughts? -- Jmabel | Talk 04:09, August 9, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] architecture
I like this template they have for Portland, Oregon: {{Portland, Oregon Architecture}} ...should we do something similar here? What's our architecture coverage like? --Lukobe 21:25, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team cooperation
Hello. I'm a member of the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing articles using these criteria, and we are are asking for your help. As you are most aware of the issues surrounding your focus area, we are wondering if you could provide us with a list of the articles that fall within the scope of your WikiProject, and that are either featured, A-class, B-class, or Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Do you have any recommendations? If you do, please post your suggestions at the listing of all active Places WikiProjects, and if you have any questions, ask me in the Work Via WikiProjects talk page or directly in my talk page. Thanks a lot! Titoxd(?!? - help us) 18:51, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Requested move "Seattle, Washington" --> "Seattle"
Please join the discussion at Talk:Seattle, Washington. Thanks. --Polaron | Talk 14:24, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Is there a project banner?
I just noticed that the project does not have a banner. I am personally trying to place the banner of every project on the talk page of every article I run into. Would you want me to tag articles relevant to your project, possibly with the {WikiProjectNotice|Seattle} tag, or not to tag at all? Badbilltucker 17:04, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- I just made one (or at least the draft of one): {{WikiProject Seattle}}. - Jmabel | Talk 01:00, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

- I've been trying to get some more information out of Jimmy Wales about his visit to Portland, but I haven't heard anything back from him. Maybe I don't have the right email address to contact him about this. -- llywrch 18:17, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 19:25, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
