[edit] Standards

OK, new project, new standards. My suggestions, which will be implemented if no objections arise:

'===Seasons=== Each season should have its own page, title will take one of the following forms:

  1. 2005 in IROC
  2. 2005 in the International Race of Champions
  3. IROC XXIX (In this case, I would recommend that 2005 in IROC be a redirect.)

Each season should mention who won the races in that season, where those races were, who won the season itself, a complete points listing, and links to each race'

[edit] Races

Each race should have its own page, title will take one of the following forms:

  1. 2005 IROC, Race One
  2. 2005 International Race of Champions, Race One
  3. IROC XXIX, Race One

Each race page should have a detailed listing of how long the race was, where it was, complete listing of results, and a generous summary.

[edit] Drivers

Each driver should be notable enough to already have their own page, so we shouldn't have to worry about that. We should, however, make sure that their IROC history is well represented in their page, especially if they were fortunate enough to win.

[edit] Tracks

Each track should be notable enough to already have their own page, so we shouldn't have to worry about that. We should, however, make sure that their IROC history is well represented in their page.

[edit] Discussion

Failing comments/suggestions to the contrary, these will become standards at or about 31 July 2006. -slowpokeiv 01:30, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

  • Agree with proposed inclusion standards. Drivers, tracks, and races should be all notable without exception, for this is an all-star series. As for the seasons and races, I think that form #3 should be used for both since that is how they are always refered. --Royalbroil 04:15, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Agree Notability shouldn't be a concern. Roman numerals should be used for the seasons as well. Also, do championships count as career wins? --D-Day I'm all ears How can I improve? 16:01, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
Re: Championships, I would say that race wins should count for IROC race wins, but not as a NASCAR or IRL or CART or Champ Car, etc. Championships certainly count as awards, to be included in any infobox present, but I wouldn't down play the race wins themselves. -slowpokeiv 04:04, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Agree as suggestor, agree with form #3 with redirects on the seasons, when applicable. (IROC I - VII were ran in pats of two years each, finishing Daytona, Feb. To say 1974 in IROC might be misleading...)
  • Agree per above. Anyone have any input on whether season articles should have a format like 2005 in NASCAR listing (what would be fairly complete) results for each race, or if the each season should just have a table listing the winners of each race. Also, any input regarding if we will be using flags or not? -Drdisque 06:18, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
I would suggest brief summaries on the season pages with race winners (w/flags) on that page. I would further suggest that each race page would have complete listings table, with flags, and a full race report. Yes, the racers are mostly from the USA, but not exclusively, and as such, flags would be appropriate. -slowpokeiv 17:55, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
I like the idea of flags. There is just barely enough international flavor to make it worth including. I like the level of detail presented in the 2005 in NASCAR article - at least the average level of detail. Some race summaries should be longer, some relatively short. --Royalbroil 01:07, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Championship succession boxes

Please move this if it isn't in the right spot - I have a couple of suggestions about the Champion Succession boxes. Firstly, if a person wins the championship back-to-back (or 3 times in a row, as Mark Martin did), I'd suggest that all three of those years be put into the same box, as I've done on the Mark Martin page. Secondly, why are the championship years referred to by roman numerals instead of the years? Is this an IROC convention? -- DiegoTehMexican 16:27, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

IROC has used the Roman numerals since at least the early 1980s. I think it would be fine to include the calendar year in parentheses - just the way you did it. Kudos! --Royalbroil 18:13, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Slowpokeiv was the one who added the years and Roman numerals; I just condensed the three-year stretch into one box. -- DiegoTehMexican 22:45, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Using slowpokeiv's format for the succession boxes, I've added them to all of the champions' pages. -- DiegoTehMexican 23:45, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Good Job, it looks nice! --Royalbroil 04:54, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Steve Millen nominated on DYK

I have nominated the new Steve Millen article for DYK. I'd like to see an article from the WikiProject represented on the main page. Please improve the article if you can. We could change the DYK nomination to also include a new 1995 IROC season page (make it a joint nomination), but it would have to be VERY SOON. The article has to run on DYK within 5 days of creation to be considered a new article according to the DYK rules. THANKS! --Royalbroil 18:16, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

The article is currently listed on DYK, the first for the fledgling WikiProject. Enjoy! --Royalbroil 02:56, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Woah, I've been sleeping.. Way to go Royalbroil! -slowpokeiv 16:28, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IROC XXIX

All right, I've started the IROC XXIX page in accordance with the standards agreed upon above. However, I am not convinced that we need seperate pages for each race - the main article will not be nearly as long as 2005 in NASCAR, by virtue of only having four races, and I think that we could include the in-depth information on the main page. - DiegoTehMexican 22:43, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I was wondering if there was enough data to warrant individual pages too. I think we should try season summaries first, then later create race pages if necessary. Royalbroil 14:38, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
    • I agree, I think one page per season (which includes all four races) is suitable. Doctorindy 12:23, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Open Wheel racing/IRL/CART proposed solution discussion

There is a discussion going on here for any open wheel fans. The discussion is about how to deal with the problem of the number of sanctioning bodies that have sponsored the series, and how to present the transition in Wikipedia. Royalbroil 04:38, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IROC Template

I'm working on an IROC template (footer) for the tracks used in IROC. Trying to utilitze a format which will show the current tracks, and former tracks used. Should be up soon Doctorindy 12:24, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

    • Also, I'm going to create a new category....."IROC tracks"....should be active soon. Doctorindy 12:26, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
Sounds awesome, look forward to it. :) -slowpokeiv 15:44, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Need for a WikiProject: Motorsport?

Do we need a WikiProject Motorsport for collaboration on topics that affect all motorsport articles? I came across Wikipedia:WikiProject_Rugby - the purpose of which is to "maintain its children Wikiprojects: Rugby league and Rugby union as well as recognising, organising and improving the common areas between the codes." Now we have a lot more Motorsport WikiProjects covered than two and I sometimes think stuff such as the UK country discussion on the F1 Wikiproject applies across several others. I'm posting this on the F1, WRC, NASCAR, American Open Wheel Racing, A1GP and IROC to get people's opinions. Your comments are welcome! Alexj2002 21:06, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm in. I am a member of three of the WikiProjects (IROC, NASCAR, and American Open Wheel). I am knowledgable and often work on areas of racing that lie outside these specific genres, like midget cars, off-road racing, sprint cars, non-NASCAR stockcars, national series that tour local tracks in the United States, and other national series in the United States. These "missed" areas could be managed/organized by the meta-WikiProject. A meta-WikiProject to encompass all types of racing is needed. Royalbroil T : C 02:35, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
