[edit] Illinois state sign conventions

I need help from some downstate folk.

I'm certain that it's Illinois State Route 116/117, and Illinois State Route 116 in and around District 4.I also am certain that it's Illinois State Highway 19, etc. up here in District 1.

What I could really, really use is what people have noticed in other districts, and confirmation from someone in District 4. Thanks! --Rob 19:07, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

I noticed today on I-280 in the Quad Cities that IL 92 was Illinois 92 on a BGS. --Tim 04:16, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
Okay, so maybe it is "Illinois Route X" everywhere. Adjustments made. :-) —Rob (talk) 20:49, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Another page with naming conventions

We have Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads with more naming conventions too. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 04:43, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "Naming conventions"

This page makes inconsistent use of the terms "convention" and "naming convention", often seemingly simply to mean "de facto title of article". Given that the actual Wikipedia:Naming conventions use that terminology, are official policy, and in several cases conflict with existing article and category names (there being no current NC on these as exceptions), this is highly confusing. I suggest that "current names" and "proposed conventions" be referred to as such. BTW, I don't think that anyone has insisted on uniformity on "state highways", "state routes" would be entirely reasonable too, where that's the local usage. Alai 05:33, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Move to U.S. Roads?

Should this page be moved to be under the U.S. Roads WP? --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 01:54, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

  • No. It removes the emphasis from the type of roads this project caters to... U.S. Routes/Highways.Gateman1997 05:33, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

I don't see why not - I didn't realize that project existed when I made this. --SPUI (talk - don't use sorted stub templates!) 08:31, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Strategy

I'm aware that this is a very stressful time to be a highways contributor... with in 2005 {{routeboxint}} being debated about... 3di templates over at I-76... naming conventions... stubs... U.S. highway categories... California State Highway 17... List of California State Routes... and state highway WikiProjects. However, we've made a lot of progress this year. Just wanted to reflect on that.

But we've gained a lot of people this year and a lot of support... I think we're past the stage of people trying to delete every single highway article... but here we are discussing what to call the articles and stuff.

I'd say that we come up with some standards that we're all comfortable with and can defend... then go to Wikipedia:Naming conventions and get them official. If we do this, then we won't run into problems with these, and we won;t have all of these smaller debates. Our SFD problems will get less complicated, as well as our categories.

If we go into debates such as the SFD ones with mixed opinions, (such as the nasty one), then we'll get shot down and we're at the mercy of the closing admin to make the decisions. But if we have one opinion, we can get a consensus that way. It worked with Talk:List of California State Routes, although it was really controversial.

I'm thinking of starting a page which links to all (U.S.) highway related debates as well so people can put it on a watchlist... and be able to monitor these debates.

But yeah... just some thoughts. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 02:43, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

To this end I've brought this page up at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 04:30, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
