[edit] Individual vs. consolidated articles

Does anyone else think that the creation of new Encantadia/Etheria Wiki articles needs to be organized? I'm into Encantadia as much as the next guy (OK, that's an understatement), but do peripheral characters like Armeo, Ether and Muros need their own article? *ducks after saying Muros*

I'm thinking that entries for minor characters should be consolidated where appropriate. For instance, Banak and Nakba should probably just get one article, and perhaps Memen and Ornia as well. Armeo can fall under the Sapiro discussion; Ether, part of the discussion of Encantadia's creation or deities; and Muros (at this point, until the show's producers play up the character) objectively belongs under a Lireo or Other Diwatas section.

I'm withdrawing my objection to a separate article on Muros. From the trailer for Encantadia: Pag-Ibig Hanggang Wakas, it seems Muros (as well as Apek and Wantuk) will play a significant role. Mercurio 04:51, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Having separate articles for such characters creates a lot of redundancy (with all the repeated character histories). I suggest having combined articles for tertiary characters, particularly those with shared backgrounds. Anyway, it's easy to split an article off when the material has sufficiently grown. Mercurio 05:31, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

Here's my take on the matter: the articles can be created enough if there is enough information to be written. All minor characters and extras (see below) would be lumped into an article, perhaps Minor characters of Encantadia. Howard the Duck 07:23, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Why not just put the minor characters in the kingdoms they belong to. If there is a Sapiryan minor character, we must put him in Sapiro. It would be much easier. Anyway, these are just my thoughts.--Sang'gre Danaya's baby 01:23, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, that was my idea too. Etherian minor characters (like Viktu, Barkus and As'nan) handled in the Etheria article, Sapirians (Meno, Armeo, et al) in the Sapiro article, and so on. This is also why I've proposed to expand the Kings of Sapiro/Hathoria/Adamya articles into articles not just on the rulers but also on the kingdoms themselves and related characters. --Mercurio 03:17, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Encantadia wikiproject???

Isn't this a bit... odd? I know Encantadia is good but its own WikiProject? Perhaps a WikiProject about Philippine TV will be better. Howard the Duck 07:23, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi there. Well, my perspective on that is threefold:
  • Personal interest. I want to work on something I'm very interested in, and I honestly don't have the motivation to write about much else on Philippine TV apart from Encantadia/Etheria.
  • The program's merits. I want to work on something whose worth I believe in and can justify to others, and I think Encantadia fits that bill. Part of my reason for wanting to have good coverage of Encantadia is because I believe that the series is world-class in ambition if not also in execution (as validated by the awards it has garnered). For me, this excellence that drives the program, more than just high ratings, distinguishes and elevates Encantadia over the bulk of Philippine TV, and consequently makes it worthy (in my mind) of mention and exposure on Wikipedia. So, although arguably an equal amount can be written about something not-so-good as much as about something good, I believe it's more valuable to write about the good (and, even more, the best) stuff.
  • Attainability. I want to work on something achievable. Producing quality coverage of a single program like Encantadia/Etheria is enough of a challenge, don't you reckon?. What more for a project about Philippine TV at large. For the sake of argument, let's say enough Wiki writers (and readers) had the interest in this broad a project scope, imagine the time, skills, dedication and other resources that would have to be mustered to keep such a project organized. Keep it real, keep it focused and keep the quality up, that's what I say.
But thanks a lot for asking the question, Howard the Duck. You're actually the first person who has bothered to use the Talk page to exchange his/her ideas on the project so you're quite welcome.  :-) Mercurio 09:08, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
That's fine with me. Although I still think this WikiProject is too specific (there's even a Pokemon project lol), I guess that'll be fine. I've made some major adjustments at the Encantadia article. We must keep it NPOV and sounding like a fansite. Howard the Duck 10:48, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lireo article

In addition to the main Encantadia article, there are currently 2 articles that deal with the queendom of Lireo:

  • Lireo - The earlier of the two (created August 2005). I assume this article was intended to split off detailed information about Lireo, such as its customs and people, from the Encantadia article. The article only stood for a day before it was redirected back to the Encantadia article. On 18 February 2005, the redirect was removed, and the article was made into a copy of the List of Lirean Queens article, but, again, the article was cut down almost immediately. As of this writing, the Lireo article is a two-paragraph affair that is completely redundant with the Lirean Queens and Encantadia articles.
  • List of Lirean Queens - The newer of the two (created January 2006) but the one currently more developed, having a goodly-sized discussion devoted to Lireo's rulers, complemented by well-chosen images. I suppose this article was created out of a wish (need?) to elaborate on Lireo's history (specifically the passing of the crown, which was central to the plot of Encantadia) without cluttering up the Encantadia article.

The rationale for these articles is that there are 3 subject matters, as follows:

I. Encantadia (including general info about Lireo)
A. Lireo (specific info about the queendom and its people, such as geography, history, culture)
1. Queens of Lireo

The question is: how should we divide these topics into articles? As I see it, there are 3 options. (Please pardon the math-like representation; I wanted to visualize my point, at least for myself if not for others, and this was the best I could manage.)

  1. Draw the line between Encantadia and Lireo. Encantadia / (Lireo + Queens of Lireo). That is, combine all specific info on Lireo (including its Queens) in one article, retaining only general info about Lireo in the Encantadia article.
  2. Draw the line between Lireo and Queens of Lireo. (Encantadia + Lireo) / Queens of Lireo. That is, keep both general and specific info about Lireo in the Encantadia article, but split off the discussion of its Queens into its own article.
  3. Encantadia / Lireo / Queens of Lireo. Have 3 separate articles on these topics.

Personally, I favor Option 1. Lireo is a queendom, and the history of its Queens forms the majority of our knowledge specific to Lireo. Other than history, I think that the only other aspect of Lireo that can be discussed is its people, the Diwatas, which would only amount to a couple of paragraphs. (There's not much to say about Lireo's particular geography or language or religion.) As such, a specific, non-redundant Lireo article that excludes a discussion its Queens (as in Option 3) won't have enough material to justify itself. Working against Option 2 is the Encantadia article's already-sizeable length.

Me again. As I'm no expert on Merging existing articles, can someone tell me whether it's possible to merge the content of one article into another while still retaining the History of both original articles? Thanks. Mercurio 17:05, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Wikantadians and friends, please chime in with your comments so we can reach a consensus soonest. Thanks. Mercurio 16:35, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Option 3. Its better to leave it behind and expect it to have numerous additions. It already proven itself to be a self-sustainable article and gives enough information. -- Kapuso 05:55, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
But isn't the only reason that the List of Lirean Queens is long right now is that (a) it has long descriptions of each queen (which should be trimmed down); (b) it repeats paragraphs (the intro on Lireo as well as the discussion of the monarchy) that are already in the Lireo article; and (c) the infobox inappropriately gives information on the Diwata people (which instead rightfully belong in the Lireo article)? Clean up these redundant items, and the List of Lirean Queens is revealed to be a very thin article. --Mercurio 06:25, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling

Correct spelling goes without saying in an encyclopedia article, and it's a bit of a challenge for a fantasy television series where exotic names are just heard and (usually) not read. Though the initial use of an assumed spelling for an unfamiliar name/word is understandable, at some point all spellings must be verifiable against a reliable, written/documented reference. --Mercurio 16:08, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Please note the following verified spellings:

  • Sang'gre - from episode titles
  • Cassiopea - from episode titles
  • Mine-a - from episode titles
  • Amarro - from episode titles
  • As'nan - from family tree on official Etheria site

For verification:
(If you verify the correct spelling for a word in the list below, please cite the source, and transfer the correctly-spelled word to the list above.)

  • Ascano
  • Ajantao
  • Viktu (chief of the Andal guard)
  • Enuo (father of Alena and Danaya)

[edit] Project notice template

Can we limit the Encantadia-project notice template on the talk-page only? I think it is not necessary and other projects in Wikipedia do not carry-out this kind of practice. --Jojit fb 02:51, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, the notice is/was intended for Talk pages, as stated on the Project page.
I do think I did put it for a time on the main Encantadia and Etheria articles (after noting that not many would-be Wikantadians use the Talk pages) hoping to drum up some membership for the project. But please do remove them from any Article pages you encounter. Thanks. --Mercurio 06:12, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Navigation template

Hi. Although I'm still not sure that the Encantadia articles need one, I've created an Encantadia navigation template here per Sang'gre-Heran's suggestion. This is just a prototype/experiment; I've not used the template on any article. Any feedback (on the template itself and on the question of its necessity) is appreciated. Thanks. --Mercurio 02:29, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Um, an anonymous user went ahead and used the template on the article pages linked therein. (D'oh!) --Mercurio 09:41, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
There's more discussion on the template here, regarding which characters should be included in the navigation box.--Mercurio 10:11, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Succession box for Lireo's rulers

Preceded by:
Demetria
Queen of the Kingdom of Lireo
Queen Mine-a
Succeeded by:
Amihan

I suggest instead of using Queen of the Kingdom of Lireo to maybe Queen of Lireo since it is quite long, and it is obvious that a Queen governs a Kingdom. I even suggest Ynang Reyna for that. Thanks! -- Kapuso 13:46, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

I agree that "Queen of Lireo" should be sufficient. However, if you use the shorter title...
Preceded by:
Demetria
Queen of Lireo
Mine-a
Succeeded by:
Amihan
...all the cells in the box get shortened, which to me is not so visually pleasing. Does anyone else think the same? If so, is there a way to make the length of the cells indepedent of their contents? --Mercurio 07:34, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
By the way, the title in the box can actually be varied per character. For example, Agane was never formally titled "Queen of Lireo", so an appropiate description should appear in her succession box instead. --Mercurio 07:34, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Timeline of Encantadia

Hi. I've renamed the Etheria's History Meddled article to Timeline of Encantadia, so as to expand its scope to discuss all matters related to Encantadia's history. I think that aside from a chronology of major events, and the changes to history that resulted from the Sang'gres time-trip to the Etherian era, the article can also discuss timeline-related problems (such as inconsistencies).

Please note that the Chronology of events section is meant to be an outline of major events and NOT a detailed retelling of every episode. It would be helpful to see other fictional timelines, such as those for Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.

Please help build the article up with the above in mind. Thanks. --Mercurio 14:32, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cast section vs. article

Hi. Let's talk about how best to present the cast information for Encantadia, Etheria and Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas. Please present your thoughts and suggestions on the matter. Afterwards, maybe we can put it to a vote. --Mercurio 04:26, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

My own, very initial thoughts:

  • Having a separate article will shorten the series' articles, which would be a plus.
  • I'm not yet sold on the current presentation/look of the Cast of the Encantadia Saga article. Although I understand this can be fixed.
  • I'm also not so sold about the present scope of the Cast of the Encantadia Saga article, which currently covers purely cast information (character/role and actor). Wouldn't a "List of characters of Encantadia" article, with groupings and descriptions of characters, be more informative? However, this would have to be balanced against the Characters sections/lists in each article.

--Mercurio 04:26, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Trying to gain insight on this matter from other Wikipedia articles (especially other TV or film sagas), I found Cast of Star Wars, which essentially has the same presentation and scope as Cast of the Encantadia Saga. However, looking at the individual articles of the Star Wars movies, such as Episode IV and Episode III, these each still contain a Cast section that does not link to the Cast article. (Big help, huh?) Will continue to look for how other articles handle this. --Mercurio 06:07, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hathoria Article

Umm...I made an article for Hathoria not realizing that I could just move List of Hathorian Kings but I have already merged it. OK??? deecee 16:06, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Project Directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council is currently in the process of developing a master directory of the existing WikiProjects to replace and update the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. These WikiProjects are of vital importance in helping wikipedia achieve its goal of becoming truly encyclopedic. Please review the following pages:

  • User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Culture Directory 2,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Philosophy and religion Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Sports Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory,
  • User:Badbilltucker/Geographical Directory/United States, (note: This page will be retitled to more accurately reflect its contents)
  • User:Badbilltucker/History and society directory, and
  • User:Badbilltucker/Science directory

and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope to have the existing directory replaced by the updated and corrected version of the directory above by November 1. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 21:59, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry if you tried to update it before, and the corrections were gone. I have now moved the new draft in the old directory pages, so the links should work better. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused you. B2T2 13:41, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
