[edit] Purpose of this project
It's only now that I've stumbled on this page. I keep an eye out on every fraternity and sorority article on Wiki and I want to express my concern over this project. The project states that "This is a relatively unique project inasmuch as there really aren't any other fraternity/chapter projects in existence." The reason why there isn't any fraternity/chapter projects in existence is that the past articles that were chapter specific were deleted by consensus on Articles for Deletion. Please take a look at
- Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Chi_Delta
- Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Delta_chapter_of_Alpha_Phi_Omega
- Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Beta_Rho_chapter_of_Alpha_Phi_Omega
- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Beta-Psi Chapter of Kappa Sigma
The above examples are articles for chapters of national fraternities. Likewise there have been other articles that have deleted based on the fact that other editors percieve them to be nothing more than a "school club" and therefore should not have a page on Wikipedia. There are articles of chapters but only local fraternities. Refer to Alpha Chi Alpha and The William Penn Society. Please take a look at What Wikipedia is Not and specifically where it states that Wikipedia is not a webspace provider. By making a chapter page of Beta Theta Pi you will use a lot of space on Wikipedia and run the risk of having members of other organizations into thinking that this site can be used as their personal webspace provider. To those working on this project, PLEASE do not think that this against you personally or your organization. I'm not going to do anything like nominate the Beta chapter articles for deletion. (Besides I don't edit that much anymore). One of the reasons why I bring this up is that you will find that many Wiki editors are Anti-Greek. I've come across editors (established editors and even some admins) who straight up said that fraternity and sorority articles should be deleted. I can tell you now, through past experience, that if an editor were to propose the chapter articles for deletion, they most surely will get deleted. If you wish to continue with this project, sooner or later, this project will run into a lot of trouble and a lot of opposition because chapter specific articles seriously lack notabilty regardless if some famous alumn was a graduate of it. Another concern is that who will actually maintain these articles when and if they are created? There aren't many members of the Greek community here on Wikipedia let alone from a specific fraternity or sorority. --† Ðy§ep§ion † Speak your mind 02:43, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Project directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 21:26, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
