Don't you think that having duplicated sections for create pages and add details is a little overkill? I propose merge them both (and having some mark for non-existing pages). Lgrave

Yeh feel free to do whatever - the page was done quickly just to set it up. I'm on exams at the moment so I won't be changing anything or "advertising" for another week or so, so do whatever you want. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 09:09, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Race Reports

OK, I know it's early, and the first race is still 24 days away, but I wanted to get the ball rolling. What format/syntax should we use for the race reports? I like the idea of the format the F1 WP has, that is, YEAR LOCATION Grand Prix for the title, and other standards (in progress?) for the rest. example My question is: How? I don't think that there is an answer yet, especially since the race has not yet been run, but I wanted to start discussion, get ideas out there. What do we like about the example above that should be kept? What do we dislike, and as such, should change? What will be different F1 -> A1, and as such, must change? -slowpokeiv 23:38, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

Having a look at the A1GP website, it seems the full official name of their races will be (eg) 2005-06 A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Great Britain. It's definitely a mouthful, but I think using simply the country name rather than the nationality (as F1 does with 2005 British Grand Prix for example) is the better option, even just to avoid conflicts such as Argentine vs Argentinian. Maybe just 2005-06 A1 Grand Prix of Great Britain (with redirects from 2005-06 British A1 Grand Prix, etc). Secondly, I think qualifying should be included (and stay there - I believe it is removed on Saturdays) on the page, as IIRC teams are allowed to use one driver for qualifying and another for the race. I can't think of any other major differences between F1 and A1GP that would affect the race report. Somewhere in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Formula One (maybe in the archives), someone proposed a small infobox at the top of the race reports with the major information as in 2002 United States Grand Prix. I think this is a good idea and would work well for A1GP, provided the article/report is long enough to warrant it. I'm sure I'll think of other things later. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 07:38, 1 September 2005 (UTC)
OK, I've been talking... Seriously, for now, I think that 2005-06 A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Great Britain with redirects from both seems to be the best option. I've thrown up a quick draft of table formats in my A1GP Sandbox, lemme know what you think. (and/or just add it there. If you are reading this now, you have my explicit permission to edit this sandbox.) In progress, will add to it as I have time. -slowpokeiv 14:03, 23 September 2005 (UTC)
I think the two best times should be highlighted, just for clarity of where the "Aggregate" time comes from. I've added a few little proposals to your sandbox, I prefer the first one. Let us know what you think. Also, although A1GP is intentionally promoting itself as completely team-based, I think it's important to include the driver names for qualifying and the race, as the teams are allowed to use one driver for quali and one for the race (although there is some restriction about times in practice I can't exactly remember). AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 02:33, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
Rule: Any driver from the team may qualify the car (one driver per session). Once qualified, any driver that posted a time within 102% of the qualification time may race either race. -slowpokeiv 23:07, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
I've made a prototype for a possible template for a race summary, similar to that proposed for F1 articles. It may not be necessary now, but if we are able to create race summaries of some length, I think it is useful to put at the top as a quick guide. The height may be an issue, but I think fastest lap needs to be in there as it is worth championship points. See it here, ignore the strangely stern warning at the top of the page, feel completely free to edit. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 04:30, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
I like what you've been doing. :) My .02: Re: Qualis, I agree, option number one. I like the clarity of the blue BG, is very nice, and I see no need to have agg times in bold. I also agree that drivers are important, but failed to include them in the chart. (It is kind of frustrating that A1GP omits that information occasionally.) Re: race summary, I have 2 points: #1, only one FL counts for points, so I think that should be reflected. #2, did you get a chance to watch the race, and more importantly, the podium? (living in the USA, and not having access to DirectTV, I am in the dark as far as TV is concerned. :( ) If A1GP puts importance on more than just the winner, I think that we should too, but if they do not, and do not use the word "podium" to refer to a second or third place finish, I think we should also reflect that. -slowpokeiv 23:18, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I saw the race, and they do have a podium with the top 3 placegetters, who each receive a medal (gold, silver, bronze i think) and a trophy. Yeh I misinterpreted the rules and thought the fastest lap in each race counts for points, so included it twice. Having it once how you changed it is perfect. [edit] Wiki categories

Should we add wiki categories, such as A1GP Team, A1GP Driver, A1GP people. Similar to the Category:Formula One people category and infobox? Felsir 12:40, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

I added a short biography for Maktoum Hasher Maktoum Al Maktoum from bits and pieces I found using Google. Seemed like a nice start for the Category:A1 Grand Prix people. I think this should be the category for non-driver people related to the A1GP. Felsir 18:28, 26 September 2005 (UTC)
There is a Category:A1 teams, putting the drivers in their own category is also a good idea. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 04:06, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
Ah, great. I cleaned the category up a bit- I replaced the tag
[[Category:A1 teams]] with
[[Category:A1 teams|Countryname A1 team]]
This way the category is listed alphabetically by country instead all teams under "A" (see result: Category:A1 teams). I suggest the same method for people and drivers- list them by surname first. It seems to be the convention in many other people categories. Felsir 06:21, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
I added the Category:A1 Grand Prix drivers. A lot of drivers have no page or their involvement in A1GP isn't recorded. So there is plenty of work here ;-) Felsir 07:06, 27 September 2005 (UTC)
Should it be renamed Category:A1 Grand Prix teams for consistency? Bornintheguz 18:20, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I agree. Felsir 18:29, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
Done. Felsir 14:04, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

I have just created a top category Category:A1 Grand Prix and two others, Category:A1 Grand Prix seasons and Category:A1 Grand Prix venues. Can someone update the categories they should be subcategories of? Bornintheguz 18:20, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean? If you add the correct category tags in the category-pages it should work. Felsir 14:04, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] ISO 3166-1 or other?

Long story short: for the three letter codes listed on {{A1 Grand Prix teams}}, and any other uses in the A1GP pages, what 3 letter codes should be used? My two cents: ISO 3166-1, for two reasons. 1)It is international, that is, it respects the country's language. (eg: DEU instead of GER) 2) It is an independant standard, that is, someone with no connection to A1GP would be able to understand it just as well as anyone else. There is a case to be made for the abbreviations listed on a1gp.com, which is why I bring it up here, but again, my vote would be for ISO 3166-1. -slowpokeiv 23:29, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

I prefer the abbreviations on the A1GP cars (probably the same as on the website), as they are directly related to the sport. I don't mind either way, but the ISO codes are a bit confusing sometimes. AlbinoMonkey (Talk) 07:22, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] List of drivers per country

I noticed a lot of inconsistencies in the team template, team pages concerning the drivers. For example: A1 Team Japan has Fukuda and Motoyama in the template, the team page says Fukuda and Noda. In Sydney the actual driver was Shimoda. I was unable to find a comprehensive list of A1 GP drivers on the web. Some teams have an A1 GP homepage [1], [2] that lists their drivers, many however have no such page. Can someone help cleaning up the template and pages to list the correct drivers? Felsir 07:48, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

The teams seem to find new drivers each week; at Eastern Creek we saw five new drivers. A1 Team Russia even skipped Lausitz to search for a driver IIRC. We should probably take driver info from the a1gp.com website, or something trustworthy. NSLE (讨论) \<extra> 09:37, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
In a couple of weeks when I'm off uni I'm going to try and get all the A1GP info down. At the start of the year I didn't expect teams to use so many different drivers, but I can imagine by the end, some may have used up to 6-8 drivers or something, which would be ridiculous to list on the template. Maybe we should restrict the template to the 2 drivers who have done the most practice/quali/races, and put the full lists on the team pages and A1 GP season page. It's interesting but I'm not sure it adds anything to the information already available. Also, I don't believe actual medals are issued anyway so it perhaps is a touch irrelevant as well.--Jsydave 11:07, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Need for a WikiProject: Motorsport?

Do we need a WikiProject Motorsport for collaboration on topics that affect all motorsport articles? I came across Wikipedia:WikiProject_Rugby - the purpose of which is to "maintain its children Wikiprojects: Rugby league and Rugby union as well as recognising, organising and improving the common areas between the codes." Now we have a lot more Motorsport WikiProjects covered than two and I sometimes think stuff such as the UK country discussion on the F1 Wikiproject applies across several others. I'm posting this on the F1, WRC, NASCAR, American Open Wheel Racing, A1GP and IROC to get people's opinions. Your comments are welcome! Alexj2002 21:09, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm in. I'm already a member of several relevant WikiProjects (F1, A1GP, British Motorsport and MotoGP) and I agree that there is a lot of overlap between all of these and an umbrella project would be helpful in co-ordinating style and approach, especially where drivers are in more than one series in their careers. Justin Wilson is a good current example - he gets infoboxes for both Champ Car and F1 and they don't really sit well on top of each other.--Jsydave 11:05, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
