What this page is (and what this page isn't):

A few Wikipedians, united by their interest in Blizzard's popular Warcraft series of computer games, pooled their talents to make various suggestions as to how we might best organize data regarding the series. These are only suggestions, a means to provide focus and get prospective editors going, and no one should feel at all obligated to follow them. Beyond that, this project is designed as a place where both veteran and neophyte editors can compare notes, discuss future goals, and address issues of a general scope. In short, because we want you to write articles, we're trying to make it as easy as possible for you to do so!

Contents

[edit] Scope

This WikiProject aims to create articles relating to everything Warcraft, related and future information, and to standardize the content and format of data in those articles. In addition, this WikiProject aims to provide some degree of damage control for poorly written or extraneous Warcraft articles.

[edit] Goals

  1. To create a consensus on what should be included.
  2. To create a consistent look and style for each type of page: games, characters, places, races, lore and so on.
  3. To be a community of editors who like to focus on the improvement of Warcraft-related articles
  4. To improve articles using our To do list

[edit] What do we include?

The main criteria for inclusion, as it is for Wikipedia as a whole, is notability. Although Wikipedia is not bound by the size constraints of the printed page, too much detailed information can be daunting to the uninitiated, who may not want anything more than a general overview.

That being said, it's not always easy to judge what is notable and what isn't. We're not GameFAQs: we don't need to have detailed statistics for every character and enemy in the series. We also aren't in the business of providing gameplay strategies. Ideally, a good article should consist of at least two paragraphs of essential information. Anything less than that should probably be included within a larger article or list.

The following articles represent examples of content quality and the desired layout and formatting for articles of their type.

[edit] General strategy and discussion forums

We have two main discussion pages:

  • The Project discussion page for issues relating to specific articles; creation, update, queries and comments.
  • The Community discussion page for topics relating to wider Wiki issues, project management, housekeeping and the project's participants.

There's also an IRC chatroom which can be found at irc.efnet.org/wikiwarcraft, however rarely used it may be.

Vek'nilash at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vek'nilash

  • I'm not sure whether or not mobs have been discussed before - and whether they merit a page or need to be merged into a larger article. If this gets speedily deleted, i'll merge it into the wider article on Warcraft realms. Personally, I think this article should be kept - it's not only a realm but a mob.
    • I have placed a speedy tag on it. That type of article will make people angry, and has no place on Wikipedia. I would suggest making this article on WoWWiki.com if it's not already there. Havok (T/C/e/c) 10:02, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
