The peer review department of the Virginia WikiProject conducts peer review of articles on request. The primary objective is to encourage better articles by having contributors who may not have worked on articles to examine them and provide ideas for further improvement.

The peer review process is highly flexible and can deal with articles of any quality; however, requesting reviews on very short articles may not be productive, as there is little for readers to comment on.

All reviews are conducted by fellow editors—usually members of the Virginia WikiProject. While there is a general intent to expand this process to allow for review by subject experts, the preparations for this are not yet complete. Please consider reviewing someone else's article too, if you request yours :-)

[edit] Instructions

[edit] Requesting a review

  1. Add peer-review=yes to the {{WikiProject Virginia}} project banner at the top of the article's talk page (see the project banner instructions for more details on the exact syntax).
  2. From there, click on the "request has been made" link that appears in the template. This will open a page to discuss the review of your article.
  3. Place === [[Name of nominated article]] === at the top.
  4. Below it, write your reason for nominating the article and sign by using four tildes (~~~~).
  5. Add {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Virginia/Peer review/Name of nominated article}} at the top of the list of requests on this page.

[edit] Responding to a request

Everyone is encouraged to comment on any request listed here. To comment on an article, please add a new section (using ==== [[User:Your name|Your name]] ====) for your comments, in order to keep multiple responses legible.

[edit] Archiving

Reviews should be archived after they have been inactive for some time, or when the article is nominated as a featured article candidate. To archive a review:

  1. Replace peer-review=yes with old-peer-review=yes in the {{WikiProject Virginia}} project banner template at the top of the article's talk page
  2. Move {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Virginia/Peer review/Name of nominated article}} from this page to the current archive page.

[edit] The Joint Expedition Against Franklin

I would like some feedback on the quality of this article. Chris Kreider 19:54, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Chris, I made some minor tweaks to be consistent with the American Civil War Task Force guidelines. Scott Mingus 23:09, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Franklin, Virginia

I would like some feedback on what I can do to enhance this article. Any reccomendation would be great. I have put a good amount of work into this article. Chris Kreider 19:55, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of Governors of Virginia

I want to see what needs to be done to get this list to featured list status. It looks as if it meets the criteria, but there may still be some fixing to do. T REXspeak 05:14, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

  • This is a list, so the following might not be completely applicable, but anyway: Please see automated peer review suggestions here. Thanks, AZ t 01:33, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thomas Lee (Virginia colonist)

Dinosaur puppy (talk contribs) Would like a review...

[edit] Plange

Love reading any article on the Lees :-) Just had a few suggestions for getting it to GA:

  • Try to expand the lead per WP:LEAD - at least 2 paragraphs for this size article, which summarizes his accomplishments and establishes why he's notable.
  • You should take away any wikilinks of people that would not ever get their own article
  • You'll probably get objections to using {{cquote}} for inline quotations. "In line" or block quotes, which are part of the flow of the article, should use the <blockquote></blockquote> HTML tag wrapped around the quote. {{cquote}}s are used for a different type of quote, the "pull quote". This is when a quote is set off (or "pulled") from the rest of the article for emphasis. Like an image, it's not part of the flow of the text of the main body of the article. Use {{Quotation}}, {{cquote}} or {{Quote box}} to create pull quotes.
  • "Lee was appointed to the Virginia Council of State, which was a lifetime appointment. The council made up the upper half of the Virginia General Assembly. The position also gave Lee the rank of Colonel and was second only to the governor" --- do you have more info on the Council of State? I just expanded Wyndham Robertson and I had that he was appointed to the Council of State (post-Revolution) and when he became the senior member he was essentially the Lieutenant-Governor and so next-in-line to Governor. From your sentence it sounds like it was basically the Virginia Senate? Also, this appointment made him Colonel automatically?

One more thing, don't forget to add the Wikipedia:Persondata template to the bottom of the article --plange 03:47, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, just thought of something else-- should the animosity and rivalry between Thomas Lee and Robert "King" Carter be explored? The Carters pretty much intermarried with all the leading families of the time except for the Lees because of this, until way down the line with the parents of Robert E.
