Article Date Assessment Comments
List of Presidents of the United States June 15, 2005 Featured article FA Date is date featured.
President of the United States of America May 17, 2006 A Formerly featured but still good.
Seal of the President of the United States May 19, 2006 Start Some good sources but where's the beef? (It's never going to be as big as some others, though.)
White House May 17, 2006 B Many short sections give a "hodgepodge" feel.
Air Force One October 12, 2004 Featured article FA Date is date featured.
Marine One July 20, 2006 Start Expansion Needed.
George Washington May 16, 2006 A Has good basic information, but needs serious cleanup as to undersourcing and bad statements to be removed.
John Adams May 17, 2006 A Good, but a few short sections.
Thomas Jefferson May 17, 2006 A Needs to be NPOVified towards the bottom and shortened.
James Madison May 19, 2006 B Needs more information.
James Monroe May 19, 2006 B Needs more life info.
John Quincy Adams May 19, 2006 B Needs more information, especially on the life part. Table does too much about presidency.
Andrew Jackson May 18, 2006 A Needs only tweaking before an FAC.
Martin Van Buren May 16, 2006 B Close to a GA but not official; particularly needs info on post-White House political activities.
William Henry Harrison May 19, 2006 B Could use expansion, but will still be on the short side.
John Tyler May 19, 2006 B Red links and lists make up too much for the article. Needs more images and actual text.
James Polk February 27, 2005 Featured article FA Date is date featured.
Zachary Taylor May 19, 2006 B Not enough meat, poor visual formatting with huge pictures.
Millard Fillmore May 19, 2006 B Needs more work in describing graphs and needs major expansion.
Franklin Pierce May 19, 2006 B Needs expansion.
James Buchanan May 19, 2006 B Needs expansion and probably some NPOVifying: if we're going to trash him , do it with sources.
Abraham Lincoln March 20, 2005 Featured article FA Date is date featured.
Andrew Johnson May 17, 2006 B Not doing well; needs more expansion
Ulysses S. Grant May 20, 2006 A Needs expansion under presidency and a few general tweaks.
Rutherford Hayes May 20, 2006 B Needs serious expansion under presidency.
James Garfield May 20, 2006 B Needs expansion, and more detail about assassination (it is likely to be of interest to many casual readers).
Chester Arthur May 20, 2006 B Too many redlinks, needs expansion.
Grover Cleveland May 20, 2006 B Needs organization and formatting, and Cabinet for second term.
Benjamin Harrison May 20, 2006 B Expand and organize..
William McKinley May 20, 2006 B Needs expansion under presidency.
Theodore Roosevelt October 13, 2005 Featured article FA Date is date featured.
William Taft May 20, 2006 A Needs better organizing, formatting, subsections for the presidency, and some more good text or source won't hurt (I've promoted this to A Class - I think it's better than most of the Bs - Sam 15:14, 26 May 2006 (UTC)).
Woodrow Wilson May 20, 2006 B Needs section on private life, otherwise very good. Going over text wouldn't hurt, either.
Warren Harding May 20, 2006 B References! Inline notes! And perhaps some NPOVing is needed.
Calvin Coolidge May 20, 2006 B Cut out quote section (work them into the article), and get references. Expansion is nice.
Herbert Hoover May 20, 2006 B The info is there, it just needs to be presented well. More inline sources would be nice.
Franklin D. Roosevelt May 24, 2006 Featured article FA Date is date featured.
Harry Truman May 20, 2006 A Uses too many subheaders of too low values.
Dwight Eisenhower May 20, 2006 A Maybe trim sections towards bottom, they aren't that important. Needs inline notes, but has good general refs.
John Kennedy May 20, 2006 A Feels like sections were just annexed on towards the bottom, better formatting is nice.
Lyndon Johnson May 20, 2006 A Superb, should be FACed soon.
Richard Nixon May 17, 2006 B Headers need to be looked at and section on quotes should be trimmed or eliminated.
Gerald Ford April 8, 2006 Featured article FA Date is date featured.
Jimmy Carter May 19, 2006 A Needs only tweaks before an FAC.
Ronald Reagan May 18, 2006 A Needs shortening, especially in lead

Bill Clinton May 17, 2006 A Only slight tweaking is needed.
George W. Bush May 17, 2006 B Needs serious NPOVifying and size control. Must be kept updated.

[edit] To-do

[edit] Article improvement

  • Keep the assessment of all relevant articles updated.
  • Get all B-Class articles A-Class.
  • Get all A-Class articles featured.
  • The only Start-Class article, the presidental seal, is of a lower priority than the biographies.

[edit] Project maintenance

  • Define nuances of our scope.
  • Advertise project and get more committed members.

[edit] Collaborations

The current Presidental Collaborations are:
Refine: George Washington
Shorten: Harry S. Truman
Expand: Martin Van Buren

This COTW is organized by WikiProject U.S. Presidents. Every week, three different articles from a pool assessed with Version 1.0 standards are chosen. Some articles (usually B-Class) need to be expanded with more information. Others (usually A-Class) need to be shortened using summary style (try not to delete good content, just move it). A few (FAs and a few A-Class) just need to be refined and generally tweaked, often before a featured article candidacy.

The articles are chosen using the comments made during the assessment. There is no formal bureaucratic way of choosing them, there's no point templating their talk pages over it, and they are not done by week but by need. For instance, an article being evaluated for featured status may stay under the "refine" slot as long as it is a candidate. The color scheme above is meant to generally illustrate the quality of the article, but it's not binding. It does not change when the articles change.

[edit] Naming conventions

When making a new project template, use these naming guidelines:

Template:USP-Description

Note that all of that is CaSe SeNsItIvE. Replace "Description" with a word that tells what your template does, like {{USP-Article}}. Userboxes have their own naming conventions, and we really don't need more than one.
