From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Slaughterfish are fictional creatures in the games The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. They are green fish with extremely sharp teeth. Although they are extremely aggressive and will quickly approach the player, even from long distances they are relatively simple to defeat, lacking strong attacks and low health points. However, since the creatures are found in water, they cannot be hit by marksman weapons or ranged spells, requiring the player to attack it in close quarters. This commonly results in difficulty for beginning players who choose to focus on such ranged weapons and magic.
Scales can be taken from dead slaughterfish and may be used in alchemy to create potions of water walking and swift swim.
[edit] Morrowind Varieties
There is a smaller variety of the slaughterfish called the small slaughterfish in the game, which is most likely a juvenile slaughterfish. Their tail is much more pronounced, and the head lacks the development common in larger slaughterfish. They are distinguished by a minor decrease of hits points and attack power compared to normal slaughterfish.
There is an important slaughterfish in the game called "Old Blue Fin." If the player joins House Redoran, he or she will be asked to kill it in a Redoran quest.
[edit] Cyrodill Varieties
In the lake west of the Imperial City, there exists a form of slaughterfish called Rumare Slaughterfish. They are significantly stronger than the average breed. In a nearby Inn, a quest can obtained in which players must acquire 12 Rumare Scales. Upon completion they are rewarded with a ring that allows you to breathe underwater.
Deep within the waters beneath the Bravil Mage's Guild, there exists a Giant Slaughterfish. This creature is among the toughest (non-Oblivion) beasts in the game. A large amount of loot can obtained from the carcass, such as gold and armor from its "previous victims".
