Netch are a fictional species found in the video game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
Netch are jellyfish-like creatures that are usually very tame and friendly by nature. They generally reside over land, but are able to float by storing a helium-like gas in their bodies. Though netch do live in the wild, most are raised on plantations for their leathery hides, which are used to make armor. Numerous netch plantations are located in the plains surrounding Vivec, in the Ascadian Isles region, which contribute greatly to the wealth of that city.
Unlike most creatures in Morrowind, male and female netch are very different in appearance. Male, or "bull" netch, are roughly twice the size of a female netch, and most of their bodies are covered by very tough hide. They have several proboscides through which they breathe and consume food and water, and through which they are also capable of spitting venom in sticky, adhesive globs that blind eyes and burn flesh.
Female, or "betty" netch, are smaller than the males. They also have almost no hide, which is why plantations raise betty netch mainly for breeding. Betty netch are a lighter blue shade compared to bull netch, and cannot spit poison. Despite this shortcoming, betty netch are tougher than bull netch, being more aggressive and faster, and often grabbing at attackers with numerous tentacle-like appendages. Betty netch are the dominant gender of netch, and are much more aggressive. Most betty netch have a "harem" of several bull netch, however on plantations the gender ratio is closer to 1:1, leading to more aggressive netch.
While most netch would never harm any creature without provocation, aggressive netch have become more common. Some believe this is happening due to the unusual outbreak of blighted monsters throughout Morrowind. The small fishing village of Gnaar Mok has had recent problems with breeding netch attacking traders. The Imperial Legion looks for soldiers to help with this issue.
Netch are difficult to kill by beginning players, due to their endurance, the bulls' poison, and the betties' aggression. Many players will hunt wild netch, as their hides sell quite well and may be used in potions, but beginners would be advised to avoid angering these creatures. In combat, ranged weapons or spells are most effective against netch, especially the bulls as their poison is relatively slow as a projectile and may be avoided.
