[edit] July 2005 discoveries

[edit] {{AM-stub}} and {{FM-stub}}

{{FM-stub}}:

  • Created by User:Radiojon on 20 June
  • Does not have its own category, but points at Category:Station stubs which is being depopulated at the moment.
  • So far only 2 articles are using the template
  • Though there are many many articles that could be labeled with this template, the utility of the label is really questionable.
  • I will convert this to a redirect pointing at {{US-bcast-stub}} and talk with the creator about what to do next.

Courtland 02:22, 2005 Jun 22 (UTC)
I've decided to sit tight and see what activity transpires in the use of the template over the next couple of days; if nothing, then that will add significant ammunition to a deletion proposal. Courtland 17:23, 2005 Jun 22 (UTC)

Sometime soon well be in a position to simply send them to sfd. (the templates, that is - not the creators of them :) Grutness...wha? 03:15, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)

From WP:SFD (deletion of {{station-stub}} & Category:Station stubs, which is now logged, so I'm posting this here):

    • I've updated Category:Technology stubs and {{AM-stub}} and {{FM-stub}} to reflect the impending deletion of this template and category. Courtland June 30, 2005 22:44 (UTC)
      • Well done, but {{AM-stub}} and {{FM-stub}} shouldn't use the same category... -- grm_wnr Esc 1 July 2005 08:19 (UTC)

They're not on the stub types list, but seem useful (haven't reallylooked into the matter, though). Right now, they both use Category:Broadcasting stubs. If we keep them, they each need their own category. -- grm_wnr Esc 1 July 2005 09:12 (UTC)

  • I've just listed a proposal on the Proposals page to deal with these two stubs and all other radio stubs. Caerwine 19:35, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{finland-musician-stub}}

Created on July 4th 2005 by User:Easyas12c. Used by 15 articles. This stub type is certainly correctly constructed, but I'm not sure if it is necessary or desirable. It is used by only a handfull of articles and goes against the current breakdown scheme of musician type rather than nationality. --TheParanoidOne 21:20, 29 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] August 2005 discoveries

[edit] {{Venezuela-bio-stub}} (listed)

Created by Alex Coiro (talk contribs) and added to Category:People stubs. Redlink category. Used by no articles. {{WPSS-cat}} on that category page completely ignored, it seems. --TheParanoidOne 10:41, 6 August 2005 (UTC)

And there are only 9 biographies in Category:Venezuela-related stubs. Aecis 16:19, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
This one has been around for a while now, and currently has about 40 stubs, so I have added it to the stub types list. --TheParanoidOne 23:16, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Tv-episode-stub}} (on WP:SFD)

Only used in 1 article, but there's certainly more suitable articles. Ought to be named {{Tvepisode-stub}} tho, I think. Also lacks a category. --Mairi 07:22, 15 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Manitoba-stub}}

Feeds into Category:Canada-related stubs. On 1 article. Could only find 5 more suitable articles in that category; atleast 44 in Category:Canada geography stubs (so a Manitoba-geo-stub might be useful). --Mairi 00:18, 16 August 2005 (UTC)

As of August 4 there were 53 Manitoba geo-stubs. Of the unsplit Canadian provinces and territories, saskatchewan would be next in line for a split, followed by Nunavut, with Manitoba third (this excludes those with the maritimes-geo-stub). For full details of all un-split geographical regions, see User:Grutness/Geo-stub tallying. Grutness...wha? 01:07, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
Added to SFD. --TheParanoidOne 23:24, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{SEAsian-history-stub}}}

Created today by an anon user, no category. Probably ought to be deleted. But an {{asia-hist-stub}} might be useful. If so, could redirect instead. --Mairi 03:59, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Several of the potential candidates for this category might be candidates for the Vietnam War stub category, I'd guess, too. Asia-hist-stub would probably be very useful, with {{India-hist-stub}} and {{Japan-hist-stub}} the two most viable subcategories. Grutness...wha? 23:27, 27 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Physiology-stub}}

Another one created today. Also lacks a category. No clue what'd be appropriate to do with it. --Mairi 03:59, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Redirect to anatomy-stub? Grutness...wha? 06:49, 27 August 2005 (UTC)
Added to SFD. --TheParanoidOne 23:33, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Cuba Rev-stub}}

Another Wiki brah creation, "for the pro-Castro Cubans to use". I've changed it to a redirect, as the name isn't particularly POV, but if someone wants to put it on SfD, go right ahead. --Mairi 03:59, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] September 2005 discoveries

[edit] {{Uruguay-bio-stub}}

Newly created, used on 2 articles. Lacks a category. Not sure if this is useful, but a {{SouthAm-bio-stub}} probably would be. --Mairi 03:57, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, we could probably use a {{SouthAm-bio-stub}}, regardless of whether we actually need a {{Uruguay-bio-stub}}. --Alynna 00:58, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
Added to SFD. --TheParanoidOne 23:46, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{.NET-stub}}

Newly created and unused. Probably not enough stubs at present, but there is a WikiProject. --Mairi 03:57, 2 September 2005 (UTC)

Sorry to say that your comment is completely wrong! .NET not only covers a dozen of articles but needs almost a hundred articles (literally speaking) to be completely covered. It depends on your knowledge about .NET. Even Microsoft itself couldn't define it or summarize it. If there are no enough stubs than that's why the project your are talking about has been created. .NET maybe needs more than you think. Cheers and respect. -- Svest 01:39, September 3, 2005 (UTC) Wiki me up™
Added to SFD. --TheParanoidOne 00:00, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Ontario-gov-stub}}

Uses Category:Canada government stubs. Other than that, looks well formed. Used on 2 articles; not sure if it'd get enough use. --Mairi 18:20, 10 September 2005 (UTC)

Somehow I don't see this being used very much... --Alynna 00:48, 12 September 2005 (UTC)
Added to SFD. --TheParanoidOne 21:11, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Qatar-stub}} / Category:Qatar-related stubs

Created today; used on 15 articles. If it's to be kept, the category ought to lose the "-related" in it's name. Other than that, looks well formed. --Mairi 01:19, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

This one has been around for a while now and still only has <25 stubs. It hasn't been nominated for SFD though, so I've added it to the stub types list. --TheParanoidOne 21:58, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{SA-mil-stub}} / Category:South African military stubs

Newly created, used on 3 articles. Doubtful that there's enough stubs, but I could be wrong. --Mairi 06:21, 16 September 2005 (UTC)

I've populated the stub cat a bit more in the last day or two, mostly with a few squadron stubs that had not yet had the stub notice added to them. All in all there are approx 25 stubs in the category, which I think is enough to warrant the creation of the new stub. Additionally, more will follow as the various SA Army units are given some identity of their own with small articles. Apologies for not first proposing the stub before going ahead and creating it. Impi 16:22, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
The threshold for stub categories is roughly 50 to 60 articles, sometimes 80 to 100 (depending on the subject). Aecis 21:19, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Health-corp-stub}}

Not proposed, and missing a category. Used on 1 article at present (created a day ago). --Mairi 04:42, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

Articles with this template could also use the {{leisure-corp-stub}} and {{med-corp-stub}} templates, which already exist. Aecis 21:22, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
Added to SFD. --TheParanoidOne 20:53, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Cheerleading-stub}} / Category:Cheerleading stubs

Not proposed, created in the past day, used on 3 articles. Category lacks any parents. --Mairi 04:42, 20 September 2005 (UTC)

How many articles could there possibly be about cheerleading? The three articles currently in the category are about mascots, which raises the possibility of a {{mascot-stub}} template. Aecis 21:33, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
Added to SFD. --TheParanoidOne 21:23, 11 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] October 2005 discoveries

[edit] {{keyboardist-stub}} / Keyboardist stubs

Added to Category:Musician stubs today. Appears well formed. Currently used on 4 articles. --TheParanoidOne 20:23, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

That could be useful... there's a fair number of piano player stubs floating around, I know --Alynna 02:56, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Cat-stub}} / Category:Cat stubs

Created at the end of August; used on 27 articles. Lacks any parent categories. I'd think it would come close to being large enough. --Mairi 23:03, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Waaay back in the early days of this project we had a dog-stub that got deleted. Not 100% sure that a cat-stub will ever reach threshold, but "pet-stub" is probably a bit too vague. Keep it for now - we can always sfd it later if it doesn't grow. Grutness...wha? 04:34, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
Actually, we have a {{dog-stub}} on the list with 204 stubs at the moment, but there's also a Wikiproject associated with it. Caerwine 04:57, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
My memory must be going. It must have been pet-stub that was either proposed and turned down or found and deleted then. Grutness...wha? 06:02, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
I have expanded the scope of this stub type to include big cats as well. This pushes the stub count to ~60, so I have added it to the stub types list. --TheParanoidOne 18:00, 16 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Robo-stub}} / Cat:Robotics stubs

Created in July, used on 32 articles. Probably worth keeping. --Mairi 19:49, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

up - this one's probably fine. Grutness...wha? 00:00, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{California County Routes Stub}} / Cat:California County Routes stubs

Sigh. Anyone know anything about this one? Grutness...wha? 10:37, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{War-stub}}, feeds into Cat:Military stubs

Noticed this in the mil-stub listing, not proposed AFAIK. Only currently appears linked to from Wikipedia:WikiProject Wars, and no actual articles. I count 22 in the mil-stub category, and probably there's more elsewhere, so it's possibly just about viable; but proposing it first, and creating a category would have been nice. Scope should probably be clarified too: are "campaigns", "operations", etc, categoried here, or with "battles"? Alai 22:54, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Maybe it would be better to redirect this to battle-stub and expand that stub's wording to include both battoes and wars? Grutness...wha? 23:49, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan to me, would certainly simplify what to do with the inbetweenies... There are, though, two separate WPs here... Think merging them, too, is above our pay grade? :) OTOH, they do say "It is vital that we work together closely with this [battles] project"... Alai 00:26, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
Merging the projects is certainly a viable idea, since Wikipedia:WikiProject Wars was brought out of inactivity (by members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Battles) only to develop a new version of {{warbox}}; since there are only two (active) members, however, the place is something of an echo chamber. Any input there would be very welcome, and could cause just about any result you'd like :) Kirill Lokshin 01:05, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
's not worf my job, mate... Probably a good idea to have a word with both wiki pojects and tell them that it would make more sense to us (and probably be a lot easier for them) if the two stubs were combined into one. Other than that - well, we don;'t want to start a WikiProject War , do we :) Grutness...wha? 01:09, 18 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{EastEndersStub}} / Category:East Enders Stubs

I think this is a misguided effort by a relatively new user. Stub-type and associated category were created today. As yet, just a handful of entries in each. Template and category relate to a BBC soap opera called EastEnders.

possibly useful - it's a pretty big series (though we haven't got a Coro. Street stub, which is bigger). If kept, both will need renaming, though (to {{EastEnders-stub}} and Cat:EastEnders stubs). Grutness...wha? 22:27, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
I've moved it to EastEnders-stub... I'll take the previous name to sfd, though I'm tempted to take both there. Grutness...wha? 05:38, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Scotland-stub}} / Cat:Scotland-related stubs

And the redirect Category:Scotland stubs. Created today, used on 2 articles and placed into the stub category hierarchy. The category ought to have the name of the redirect... --Mairi

  • Weird. And with a circularity in the categories, for good measure. I've reversed category and redirect, and "moved" the articles and sub-cats. But this is probably reasonable and possibly viable, depending on numbers in UK-stub. Though let the ritual scolding of the creator begin, regardless. Alai 04:32, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
  • No need to have a redirected category. Once it's been empty a couple of days it can be speedied. I agree that Cat:Scotland stubs is the better name, and I don't see any problem with this one being filled (but now that it exists, expect someone to come along and create Wales-stub and England-stub!) Grutness...wha? 08:38, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
  • The standard naming of such stubs is "foo-related stubs", so why did Alai move it to the non-standard "foo stubs"? It really is a mess with the circularity of the redirect. I tried to reverse it to Scotland-related stubs, but as a newbie I do not understand why the artcles (11 of them ) did not automatically go back to Scotland-related from Scotland. This will have to go to Wikipedia:Categories for Deletion for discussion and potential renaming. I became interested in this topic with the establishment of the Scottish Wikipedians' notice board, and as I was copying the Norwegian template, I just copied their "Norway-related stubs" to "Scotland-related stubs". I was actually very surprised when the link did not come back red!--Mais oui! 11:47, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
  • The standard is not "foo-related stubs", but "foo stubs". If this is to be discussed on a deletion page, it has to be WP:SFD, not WP:CFD. Aecis 12:39, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
  • "The standard is not "foo-related stubs", but "foo stubs"." That does not appear to be the case. If you have a look at Category:Africa-related stubs, Category:Central Asia-related stubs, Category:Russia-related stubs, Category:Faroe Islands-related stubs, Category:United Kingdom-related stubs, Category:Gibraltar-related stubs, Category:United States-related stubs, Category:Quebec-related stubs, Category:Pitcairn-related stubs, and hundreds of others, it is pretty clear that "foo-related stubs" is the standard format.--Mais oui! 13:19, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
  • It has recently been decided (I think it was on WP:WSS/P) that the standard (or the naming guideline, if you will) is "foo stubs." We are slowly but steadily working on converting "foo-related stubs" to "foo stubs", as you can see on WP:SFD (see for instance October's deletion log). Aecis 13:41, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
  • D'oh. Serves me right for an "out-of-process move", I suppose, but as it was created out of process anyway... I think this rather proves, that there's a reason for the process. Alai 14:37, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Japan-politician-stub}} / Cat:Japanese politician stubs

Created today, used on 2 articles. Very likely viable, given the size of it's parent categories. --Mairi 03:27, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

I say we inform the creator of this template and category of the procedures, for future cases, add this one to WP:WSS/ST and start filling the category. Aecis 16:52, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Canada-university-stub}} moved to {{Canada-edu-stub}}

Spinboy has taken it upon himself to move Canada-university-stub to Canada-edu-stub. As this changes the scope and creates a mess, this probably ought to be undone, shouldn't it? --Mairi 22:52, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

We've already got a Canada-school-stub and (well, had) a Canada-university-stub, so this really isn't necessary... Doesn't doing it by country first cut across the existing organisation? Put it back. --Alynna 23:04, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
agreed - and asap. Grutness...wha? 00:18, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
Done. {{Canada-edu-stub}} is still a redirect, but probably ought to be deleted... --Mairi 00:30, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
so... sfd... Grutness...wha? 01:18, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Valencia-stub}} / Cat:Valencia (autonomous community) stubs

Created today, and used on 36 articles. Might get enough use to be worth keeping... --Mairi 06:38, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

...many of those articles would, if anything, use a Valencia-geo-stub. This is probably in response to the Catalonia stub created last week (which was created with the specific instruction to keep the Spain-xxx-stub on geo and bio-stubs). Sigh. Grutness...wha? 07:16, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
Hi! I've created this stub because there are a lot of articles related to Land of Valencia lost without the category, and because most of these are stubs. I'm sure that it reaches more than 100 articles. I haven't created this stub in response to Catalonia-stub, in fact, it's probably that later must be created some common stubs related for both categories such as Catalan literature. --Joanot Martorell 07:37, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{radio-station-stub}}

Feeds into Cat:Broadcasting stubs, used on 9 articles. See proposal page for a proposed reorganization of {{radio-stub}} and its relatives. Caerwine 19:20, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{China-military-stub}}

Linked to category:military of the People's Republic of China (yes, not a stub-specific category). — Instantnood 04:29, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

  • Not outrageous, but: would be better at China-mil-stub, for consistency; and questionable viability. I counted 19 of these in {{mil-stub}}, and it's not clear that there's huge numbers in either {{china-stub}} or the above permanent category. But it might creep up to above the threshold (or at least, a threshold). Alai 17:32, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] November 2005 archives

[edit] {{Bolivia-geo-stub}} / Category:Bolivia geography stubs

Created today, already used on 103 articles. I've listed it on WP:WSS/ST --Mairi 07:39, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Without looking, let me guess. Are the creator's initials TC? Grutness...wha? 00:44, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Good guess :) --Mairi 04:41, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{Geelong-stub}} / Category:Geelong stubs

Created today, used on 60 articles. Given it's size, I've added it to WP:WSS/ST. --Mairi 01:10, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

  • How does a city of 200,000 warrant 69 articles, let alone 69 stubs? I suspect a lot of those atricles need to be either deleted or merged. Caerwine 04:59, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
  • Unless there's a wikiproject, this should be deleted - irrespective of its size. And most of these are Victoria-geo-stubs anyway. Once you take them out, you're left with about half a dozen stubs. This one's heading for SFD. Grutness...wha? 05:39, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] {{UNMIK}} and {{Republik of Kosova}} / Category:Kosovo stub

Created in April, category contains 30 articles. Quite horrible. Conscious 12:40, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

While a case could be made for havin a separate Montenegro stub, this one isn't needed. And the stub names are, as you say, quite horrible. This one should probably be sfd'd. Grutness...wha? 00:46, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
We also probably want to have to avoid as long as possible the Kosova/Kosovo controversy Caerwine 06:46, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
