Welcome to WikiProject Portugal, a WikiProject set up to better organize and present information in all articles related to Portugal. It is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians to improve all Portugal-related articles in order to make Wikipedia an excellent resource for Portugal-related information for all who visit. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.

[edit] Scope and goals

This project is designed to help those interested in improving all of the Portugal-related articles on Wikipedia to find a particular area in which they are interested in working. As "Portugal" is a broad subject, there are many sub-projects and collaborations in which you can participate. We want to:

  1. Allow people to more easily locate groups working on Portugal-related WikiProjects
  2. Create a body of articles that accurately depicts the history and culture of Portugal and the Portuguese
  3. Expand the number of articles regarding Portugal and Portuguese subjects
  4. Further #3 by expanding all Portugal-related article stubs
  5. Highlight Portugal's relationship and contributions to the rest of the world
  6. Properly source all Portugal-related articles, preferably using the <ref> element
  7. Standardize the style and format of articles on Portugal or Portuguese subjects; and
  8. Standardize the use of Portuguese-language terms, names, and translations into English across all related articles, bringing them in line with the WP:MOS-PT.

[edit] To-do items

Please "Be Bold!" and help us out. There are plenty of things to do in the lists below, including the creation of brand new articles.

For now, we need to tag every Portuguese article with the WP:PT template. You can find details below.

For a list of Good and Featured Articles, please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Portugal/FAC/

Any member of WikiProject Portugal may assess Portugal-related articles by following the guidelines below. If you aren't sure about an article, ask about it on the assessment page.

The {{WikiProject Portugal}} template has a class= and an importance= parameter which provide an article assessment and importance rating for each article:

{{WikiProject Portugal| class=??? | importance=??? }}

The following values may be used for the class parameter. Please note that you must type them exactly as below as they are case-sensitive:

You have to replace the "???" above accordingly. If a rating is not assigned, the article will be filed in Category:Unassessed Portugal-related articles. The class should be assigned according to the grading scheme. A list of Unassessed and In dispute articles can be discussed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Portugal/Assess.

The following values may be used for the importance parameter. Please note that you must type them exactly as below as they are case-sensitive:

The parameter is not used if an article's class is set to NA, and may be omitted in those cases. The importance should be assigned according to the importance scale below.

Article importance grading scheme
Label Criteria Examples
Top Subject is a must-have for a print encyclopedia. High probability that non-Portuguesophiles would look this up. Must have had a large impact outside of Portugal and be known in the majority of the world. For example, Fátima is very popular worldwide and known in most of the world. No member should give this rating to any article without first getting Project approval from the other members. Fátima
High Subject contributes a depth of knowledge to the encyclopedia. Must have had a large impact in Portugal, and had some impact outside Portugal. Insert article here
Mid Subject fills in more minor details, and may have been included primarily to achieve comprehensive coverage of another topic. Important in Portugal, but not necessarily known as well outside of Portugal. Insert article here
Low Subject is peripheral knowledge, possibly trivial. Insert article here

If you're looking for something to do, please consider working on the articles in the categories above in order to bring them toward (or to) Featured Article quality. The chart on the right shows how many of each class of article there are, and there's plenty to work on. We would like to have 10 featured articles from this project by the end of the year. This is a reachable goal, but we'll all have to work hard at it. So, please jump right in and help us out.

[edit] Portuguese Collaboration of the Week

You can participate in the collaboration below, or visit the PTCOTW page. You can use the articles in the categories above as ideas for nomination for the collaboration.

  • Wikipedia:Portuguese Collaboration of the Week/Current Portuguese COTW

In addition, Portuguese people has been nominated for collaboration at Wikipedia:Article Creation and Improvement Drive. Please help clean and repair the article, which is linked in more than 1500 articles and discussions.

These are mostly well written articles that need a little improvement in order to become FA quality.

[edit] FAC and Peer Review Requests

Editors of Portugal-related articles are encouraged to involve the community by listing Featured Article Candidates and Peer Review requests here.

[edit] Projects

These are big tasks that require a lot of work from a lot of people helping out in order to improve something. Feel free to jump right in and help with any of them. We always welcome more help!

[edit] Cleanup tasks

These are anything smaller or more specific than projects and anything that individuals can work on.

You can also work on files listed on Wikipedia:Pages needing attention/Portugal.

[edit] Pages marked for deletion

Portugal-related articles for deletion are listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Portugal. Please go and express your opinion regarding any articles listed there.

[edit] Redirect requests

[edit] Stubs

You can find a list of all Portugal-related stub categories on the Category talk:Portugal stubs page. All of the articles on the main Category:Portugal stubs page need to be sorted into these more specific categories while they are stubs (last performed on ). Of course, you can also expand the stubs in such a way as to make them no longer stubs. If none of the existing stubs apply, please use {{Portugal-stub}}.

If you want to make a new stub for a particular category, please note that all stubs are managed by the Stub-sorting WikiProject. Before creating a new stub, you should propose it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. DO NOT simply create new stub templates, as these will probably be deleted. See Wikipedia:Stub for general guidelines on creating stub templates and categories.

[edit] Requests

The articles on these pages need to be created (or pointed to existing articles under slightly different names). You can also add requests to one of these pages. If you aren't sure which page to add your request to, please ask on the talk page.

There will be a category for requested photographs of Portugal:

[edit] Proposed new or updated articles

List any Portugal-related articles on which you are working that aren't quite ready for prime time, or proposed replacements or updates for currently existing articles. This will allow an informal peer review of sorts by anyone interested in the particular topic, thereby helping Wikipedia to become better.

  • Proposed update of Posting system (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs): the article was a mess and I tried to Wikify it, I think it would be great if someone who's more knowledgeable about football could make it more complete, since the posting system is a big story in Portuguese football.
