The League of Copyeditors is a centralized group of talented copyeditors whose purpose is the elimination of the substantial backlog of articles tagged for copyediting. This group assumes the responsibility of processing these articles and properly editing them for grammar, punctuation, capitalization, word usage, formatting and wikification.

The following copyedit tag denotes articles that are in need of work:

We will take necessary steps to improve these articles so that they are in a satisfactory condition that warrants removal of the copyedit tag.

Contents

[edit] Mission objectives

The league's objectives are threefold; we will ensure that:

  • The copyedit backlog is reduced to a manageable level.
  • Articles are tagged that are in need of copyediting.
  • Difficult to copyedit articles are processed through a team effort.

[edit] Current to-do list

  • Patrol the copyedit backlog, process articles, and remove the copyedit tag or post the article below in the "articles ready for final proofread" section.
  • Recruit new members so that we can better tackle the ever growing number of articles in need of copyediting.
  • Ensure accuracy by double-checking lengthy or difficult articles already copyedited by another league member.
  • Lend your expertise to the group by searching through the "articles requiring assistance from other editors" list to see if you can provide help on the current difficulty being experienced with that copyedit.

At the top of each discussion page for the articles you process, please insert the following userbox after the copyedit has been successfully completed:

This article has been copyedited by the League of Copyeditors. If you would like to participate, you can visit the project page, where you can join the project and see a list of open tasks.

[edit] Articles requiring assistance from other editors

Explain the nature of the help needed; use the talk page if it can't be summed up in one sentence.

  • Chinese armies in the Second Sino-Japanese War: I have almost copyedited the entire article, but the Chinese Air Force section has rather silly language I cannot be bothered amending. There is not much left to do in the article. I have already done enough work on it and I do not have much experience with military articles. Rintrah 13:26, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Femslash I've spent a little while on this, and it still needs a lot of work. I find that part of my soul has died to learn that Battlestar Galactica femslash even exists. Trusilver 09:51, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Classical liberalism This one is a political minefield and only the most steadfast editor should attempt it. Gobs of sources to check. I'll give you my soul if you help.Shawn Fitzgibbons 13:49, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
  • Not exactly done yet. I've cleaned up the lead and bio section. I think, however, we should have a History section.
I've given-up on this article.SFinside 04:02, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Claymore (manga) I've been editing this for a while now, and I'm still not done. I've checked most of it, and the ones that I have already checked still confuse me. Need help please. I'll still be editing it...Thanks. Kyo cat¿Qué tal?meow! 23:48, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
  • In progress. Rintrah 16:04, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Articles in urgent need of only a quick look

List articles here that need another copyeditor's opinion on only a few but important issues or to end uninformed, unnecessary disputes etc. (By instilling respect for WP policies and reference works and other reputable sources, we can exponentially reduce the amount of copyediting necessary on WP and help to drastically reduce the amount of time wasted on WP in unnecessary disputes.)

  • Serial Experiments Lain - it's almost a FA, but 1a is a bit lacking. Help? - Malkinann 04:33, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Articles ready for final proofread

(temporary fix)

  • One last change is replacing "EP" and "LP" with more familiar terms. While most people know the difference, the media is much more important than it's length. --Sigma 7 18:36, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
  • I checked over this article - given it's a major change, it still needs another pair of eyes. The most major change involved the intro that was cloning too much info from 1080p but had red links. --Sigma 7 21:39, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Yumeria (What an eccentric anime!) Rintrah 14:58, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Yang Xiu Rintrah 15:13, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Curtis J. Humphreys: Some of it is a little confusing, but the content seems the problem. It is ready for a proofread. Rintrah 05:44, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Change management auditing: I have tried to make this article readable from the stew of buzzwords and confusing sentences this article originally consisted of. In doing so, I might have introduced inaccuracies, though at least my version makes more sense. Please review. Rintrah 07:19, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Element Girl Rintrah 13:37, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Dachau: A decent translation from a German article, but I found ways to improve it. Rintrah 14:44, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • XO-1b: About a Jupiter-like extrasolar planet. Rintrah 15:27, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Landau quantization: It probably helps to have some background in mathematics. Rintrah 16:09, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Bennie K: short. Rintrah 17:23, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • 1990s fads and trends in North America: Despite its vacuous, revolting subject-matter, I managed to go through the whole article, toning down marketing-friendly language and removing utter nonsense. I hope you approve. Rintrah 09:34, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Pinheiros: as above. Rintrah 13:58, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Blautopf: I was tempted to remove all imperial system measurements, but this probably would have exposed me as anti-American. Rintrah 15:02, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Bakersfield, California This has almost exhausted my patience. If anyone else wants to help, please do everything from Highways. It is too big. I am getting continually growing more frustrated with it and putting less effort into it.Rintrah 14:43, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
  • OMG, it's down to 30k. Someone please take a final look. :) IrisWings 06:21, 7 December 2006 (UTC) (P.S. I reorganized the sections but didn't change anything you'd done, Rintrah.)

[edit] Articles proofread

Move articles here when completed

I just did a bunch more work on that one. Still needs work; see article's talk page, esp. about how article says term is derogatory, then constantly uses the word as if it were neutral (imagine the article on the word "nigger" being written that way!) I've removed the WikiProject tag from the top of the Talk page, since the job is definitely not done, and it looks bad to say we've edited it when it is still in this state... — SMcCandlish [talk] [contrib] 11:45, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Tried to clean it up a bit more. I think I've mitigated the offensiveness; the word has to be used a few times in the article for clarity, but I got rid of the rest. IrisWings 04:13, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
This seems OK now although there is still lots of room for content improvement. "Coolie" is commonly used in scholarly historical articles; it's only offensive when used for people today, and is in common use in India as shown by the links. --Espoo 17:29, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Balikpapan. I have done most of the article, but there are some sections I don't know how to edit: the second paragraph of Airport is confusing, and Kariangau Industrial Zones has content which is either poorly written or shouldn't be there at all. Rintrah 23:37, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
This was a nightmare, still want someone to give this one more check. Trusilver 06:28, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
I've corrected a lot of language problems and done some copyediting and deleting of illogical parts, but it's still a nightmare because most of what it contains is unsourced and much of it is still unclear. I'm tempted to add {{RoughTranslation|Indonesian}} because there is no way of knowing what some parts mean without understanding the original that it was obviously translated from, http://id.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kota_Balikpapan. I made a request for help at the Indonesian talk page. --Espoo 02:20, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
copyedit completed, but major content problems left (what would be an appropriate tag?) --Espoo 18:19, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
  • The style for this article still seems choppy, but should be okay. --Sigma 7 02:32, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Proofread - one reference is missing, but looks good. --Sigma 7 03:00, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
  • *sigh* all the scholarship I lavished on the article will be wasted. Rintrah 08:21, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
