[edit] Scope

This is a WikiProject on elements of the Latter Day Saint movement, Mormonism, Latter Day Saint history, doctrine, practices, and other cultural effects inspired by Joseph Smith, Jr..

This project is closely related to Wikipedia:WikiProject Utah

[edit] Project Style Guidelines

See:

Some quick points to remember:

  • Articles wholly pertaining to the Latter Day Saint movement should be parenthesized "(Latter Day Saints)", unless the article name is unambiguous without the parenthetical.
  • Articles should not be limited to a single Latter Day Saint denomination, unless including the entire Latter Day Saint movement is impractical or awkward. For example, instead of "Restoration (Community of Christ)" or "Restoration (LDS Church)", you would call the article Restoration (Latter Day Saints).
  • In article names, references to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints should capitalize the initial The and include a hyphen and a lower-case "d".
  • In general, use the term Mormon or its derivatives only when referring to people or denominations with historical ties to Utah-based The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Deadlinks are discouraged as they tend to attract POV material on religious subjects.
  • Apply the {{LDS-stub}} boilerplate message at the end of stubs.

[edit] Timeline

There's a timeline based on LDS (1850s-on) and Mormonism (centuries and 1820s-1840s) in general. For specific dates (eg, June 1, 1944) you should link normally. You should also show a link to the timeline somewhere on the page (probably in "see also" or in See ... bits) as appropriate. You can start here to see the timeline: 19th century (Mormonism).

[edit] Articles in Progress

The current Mormon Collaboration of the Month is Family_Home_Evening.

Every month a different Mormon-related topic, stub or non-existent article is picked.
Please help to improve the article any way you can.

Besides the work below, there are dozens of LDS stubs that need to be filled out. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement/Articles needed and Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement/Requested stubs.

To prevent duplication of effort, if you are working on an open task, PLEASE sign your name beneath the article's listing below, preferably with some sort of comment, so we know who is working on what, and what still needs to be done.

Once the task you have been working on is complete, please remove it from this list, and from {{Template:LDSinfobox}}.

Please put NEW requests at the BOTTOM of their respective list.

  • Second Coming (Mormonism) - Not much in the LDS article, I think it deserves some attention (maybe it's just me:))The Scurvy Eye 01:21, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

I'll try to get this thing started sometime next week (I'll get it done, no worry)-The Scurvy Eye 19:52, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

Maybe Eschatology (Mormonism) would be a better title? CaliforniaKid 03:07, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
What the heck does that mean? I don't think it would be a better title because nobody would understand it. --Pahoran513 03:11, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Eschatology is the study of the end times or last things. It encompasses not only the second coming, but also any beliefs about antichrist, tribulation, rapture, resurrection, new creation, etc. I suggest it because while the second coming is a worthy topic, I think these other things are worthy topics also. You could make Second Coming (Mormonism) a redirect page that points to Eschatology (Mormonism). But it's just a suggestion, and I realize that Latter-day Saints often try to avoid technical theological terminology. CaliforniaKid 03:18, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
I just noticed that the Eschatology article contains a section on Mormonism. Perhaps this could serve as a precedent, and rather than creating a new page, we could add to the Second Coming article a subsection on the doctrine's form, role, and function in Mormonism. CaliforniaKid 03:20, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I've recently done quite a bit of research concerning the 1826 "trial" of Joseph Smith, Jr. This is mentioned in Early life of Joseph Smith, Jr., but there is much detail not included. Sound like a worthy endeavor? uriah923(talk) 17:13, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Sounds worthy to me. CaliforniaKid 03:07, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup

  • Mormon Trail (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) was just expanded by an editor, but much of the material seems to concern the early "chruch" [sic] rather than the trail per se. There are also POV problems, not to mention the grammar and spelling mistakes. -Will Beback 08:39, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
I recently reverted/removed this LDS history material as it was not not directly applicable to the article as presently constituted. But the article is very brief and quite incomplete. I hope to work on it in the next few months, and would love help. WBardwin 05:48, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
  • First Vision - Needs wikifying mostly. Could probably be shortened some. Any significant changes, though, should probably wait until the Joseph Smith, Jr. controversy dies down, since it'll probably just get dragged into it. Tijuana Brass 02:05, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Script-generated to-do lists

[edit] /Articles needed

553 red links compiled from nearly all of the articles in the Category:Mormonism hierarchy. I've listed the Mormonism-related articles that employ each red link because many of them are obvious mistakes that should be fixed on the page. Some should also be redirects to prevent similar mistakes in the future. I've also listed the number of main namespace links-to.

Many of these have nothing whatsoever to do with the Latter Day Saint movement, but I believe this list is interesting. Many secular links need to be fixed anyway.

[edit] /Requested stubs

This list compiled from Category:LDS stubs, listed in order of number of links-to, excluding wikilinks from user pages and wikipedia namespace. Note that the {{LDS-stub}} template causes every LDS stub to have a self-referential link. Therefore, every article has one less link-to than this list shows. Thus, articles listed her have one less link-to than it would appear. Therefore the articles with "1" link-to are in fact orphans. Cool Hand Luke 07:36, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Heh. this dif shows that Mormon (prophet) is now beating Spencer W. Kimball for links. Meanwhile, Hyrum Smith has gained nine links since November, jumping up into the top ten. Cool Hand Luke 07:45, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I've decided to start tackling the temples list. Does anyone know of someplace that offers fair use pictures of any of the temples? Sue Anne 22:57, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help wanted

  • Jgardner is looking for help in writing biographies on the church leaders. Contact him on his talk page if you want to help. He can show you what he is doing and where to go to get information. Even if you aren't a good writer, there is plenty of other work needed in correlating dates and various things.
  • bhludzin - thank you for everyone who has done such a great job on the List of temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There are now articles on all of the existing temples. Now we need properly licensed pictures of all of the temples uploaded to Wikipedia so that they can be added to the articles and also to the list (check out the list - it is looking great!) I have gone to web sites, found some pictures, and asked the owners for permission via e-mail, and uploaded them. Please do not upload pictures without permission, the bots will just remove them. If you have any photos, or have friends with photos, please upload them. Thank you!
  • DAde - He needs help because his Portal:Latter-day Saints is sometimes vandalised. Please look on his portal and correct vandalism.
