Our goals are:
We need your help! If you are from Geelong, or know something about the city, you can:

Also visit the Australian Wikipedians' noticeboard for collaboration on Australian articles in general.

[edit] Scope

The areas covered by this project are listed below. Each area has its own page for the discussion and formulation of guidelines and conventions, as well as for listing examples of the best articles. If a page does not yet exist for a particular area, feel free to create it and propose how that part of the Project might be organised.

[edit] Ways to complete our goal

  1. Create more quality articles on Geelong
  2. Add quality information and images to Geelong related stubs.
  3. Attract attention from editors interested in Geelong and Geelong-related topics.

If you would like to help, you can view all articles related to this WikiProject here, or help us expand on our stubs. For a full list, see this page: Category:Geelong Stubs

[edit] Article assessment

The {{WP Geelong notice}} template has a class= parameter that provides an article assessment ratings:

Example: {{WP Geelong notice| class=??? | importance=???}}

The following values may be used for the parameters. Please note that you must type them exactly as below as they are case-sensitive:

[edit] Article quality

Geelong-related
articles
Importance
- Class
Featured article FA
A
Good article GA
B
Start
Stub
Unassessed
Total

Category:Non-article Geelong-related pages)

If a rating is not assigned when the {{WP Geelong notice}} is added, the article will be filed in Category:Unassessed Geelong-related articles by default. If assessing the article, the class should be assigned according to the grading scheme. A list of Unassessed and In dispute articles can be discussed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Geelong/Article assessment.

See also: List of Geelong-related articles by quality | Log (updated daily).

[edit] Article importance

If an importance rating is not assigned, the article will be filed in Category:Unknown-importance Geelong-related articles by default.

[edit] Legend

Article progress grading scheme
Featured article FA Reserved exclusively for articles that have received "Featured article" status after peer review, and meet the current criteria for featured articles. Example: Algorithm
A The article provides a well-written, reasonably clear and complete description of the topic, as described in How to write a Great Article. It includes a well-written introduction to the topic, and an appropriate series of headings to break up the article. It should have sufficient external literature references, preferably from textbooks or peer-reviewed papers rather than websites. It contain illustrations where apropriate (with no copyright problems). It should be at the stage where it meets the criteria for or is a Good article. Example: Ammonia (as of Oct 2005).
B The article is "almost there" but it may be missing one of the following: references, balance of content, or an important section. Alternatively, the English may need a comprehensive rewrite to make it flow, or it may need to be edited to follow standard English spelling and conventions. For maths articles, articles which are overly technical and fail to explain the basics would often end up here. Example: Antarctica (as of Oct 2005) is a good start but contains too many lists, and it needs more prose content & references.
Start The article has a good amount of content, but it is still weak in certain areas, and may lack a table. For example an article on Africa might cover the geography well, but be weak on history and culture. Example: Arithmetic (as of Oct 2005).
Stub The article is either a very short article or a stub that will need a lot of work to bring it to A-Class level, although there may be a significant amount of material in the article.

Need: The article's importance, regardless of its quality

Top Subject is a must-have for a print encyclopaedia
High Subject contributes a depth of knowledge
Mid Subject fills in more minor details
Low Subject is peripheral knowledge, possibly trivial

Quality: current article quality as per the grading scheme

Featured article FA Featured article
A Article is well written, reasonably complete and referenced; possible featured article candidate.
GA This is a good article
B We have a decent article, but it needs further editing
Start Significant cleanup or expansion needed.
Stub Article missing or miserable, or a stub.

Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.
