The European Union WikiProject is a group of Wikipedians dedicated to expanding and improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to the European Union. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

Our goals

  • Provide a consistent theme for the articles relating to the European Union.
  • Correctly categorize the articles relating to the European Union in a coherent manner.
  • Improve the quality of European Union articles.
    • This can be done with COTFs.
  • Manage the European Union WikiPortal so it doesn't fall out of usage.

Our scope

The project generally considers any article related to the European Union to be a valid topic; its primary work, however, is concentrated in a number of basic areas:
  • The EU itself.
  • The economy of the EU.
  • The expansion of the EU.
  • The history of the EU.
  • The treaties and policies of the EU.

Our structure

A structure for articles relating to the European Union has not yet been agreed.

[edit] Guidelines

The guidelines presented in this section are intended to be guidelines only; while they are well-suited for the vast majority of EU articles, there exist a number of cases where alternate approaches have been taken. These exceptions are often the result of negotiation; if something seems unusual or out-of-place, it may be worthwhile to ask before attempting to change it, as there might reasons for it that are not immediately obvious.

[edit] House style for title of articles on directives

We don't have one. I've initiated a discussion/ballot at Talk:List of European Union directives --Red King 20:37, 18 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Open Europe

The article Open Europe reads like a party political broadcast. Is there a suitable tag? {{NPOV}} doesn't seem to fit. --Red King 22:58, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Terminology

I think it is important to have correct terminology. Often articles will refer to "Europe", a geographical entity and collection of political entities, when really they mean "the EU", a political and economy construct. Primarily this is an issue because "the EU" does not consist of all the states of Europe, but secondly because it quietly attributes the ownership of Europe and its history to the EU, which is not at all the case, but which is why EUphiles often like to refer to the EU as "Europe". Clearly doing so in an encyclopedia would be as POV as referring to anti-abortionists as "pro-life" in articles, as that is an emotive label they choose to refer to themselves as, rather than a factual description. 88.105.249.165 15:49, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
