Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer music
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In this WikiProject, we seek to develop a comprehensive encyclopedia on information related to computer music. For the purpose of this project, we consider computer music to cover any kind of topic combining an aspect of music (theory, performance, etc) with an aspect of computing (artificial intelligence, theory/logic, hardware, programming, etc).
We would like to better organize this information by developing a taxonomy/hierarchy for topics in computer music, creating these categories on wikipedia, placing already-written articles into these categories, and, of course, writing new computer music articles.
This project has been revived by Phil Kirlin on November 19, 2005. Please put your name and ideas on the talk page if you want to help out. Even if you don't have specific ideas but just want to help in any way, sign up anyway.
This project was originally managed by User:Rev3rend and User:gewang. I've tried to contact them, but had no response. I would love to have their help if they're willing.
For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.
Current focus: Creating hierarchy/taxonomy of categories.
[edit] Title
WikiProject on computer music
[edit] Scope
We want to write and categorize a complete set of encyclopedia articles on everything related to computer music. Yeah, that's an ambitious goal, but we're supposed to be bold, right? Computer music needs a standard repository of methods, algorithms, techniques, ideas, history, people, technologies, programs, and programming languages and libraries.
There will naturally be overlap between this project and other articles on things like music theory, music perception, and other music topics that don't necessarily involve computers. We need not re-create the wheel, just add new pages on the computational aspects of these fields.

[edit] Structure
[edit] Hierarchy definition
This is currently being worked on at the talk page.
[edit] Goals
The goals of this project are
- to create a central place to coordinate writing and editing articles on computer music
- to create a hierarchy of categories in which to place these articles
- make sure that the Wikipedia category hierarchy for computer music mirrors ours, and that the CM articles are placed into the right categories
- to unify the appearances of articles falling into various computer music categories
[edit] Projects
- Write hierarchy/taxonomy that we will use to organize wikipedia categories and articles.
- Find already-written articles and integrate them into our categories.
- Write the actual articles; create the categories.
[edit] Tasks
- ?
[edit] Adopt an article
Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.
