Most importantly, welcome to the project on College Basketball to help organize the information on Wikipedia about NCAA basketball. As you'll see later in this page, there are some specific goals we are reaching for, and we hope you'll help us reach them.

[edit] Scope
Overall, the goal of the WikiProject on College Basketball is to provide detailed information on teams, players, and stadiums, as well as the history of a college's program. We strive to provide factual, straightforward writing on a university or college's basketball team. By organizing all the colleges' basketball pages to a certain format, we hope to achieve our goal.
[edit] Related WikiProjects
It could be considered that this is a split off of the Basketball WikiProject, but that deals with the NBA, so our project is mostly independent.

[edit] How to Create/Edit an Article
As previously mentioned, we aim to use a certain standard or structure for each article so that there is a uniform consistency when viewing colleges' basketball articles. In general, here is the basic format on first creating the article, writing it, and then updating the necessary categories and links:
- Go to the category for college basketball team listing (Category:College basketball teams).
- Select a team's name. If they don't have a page called "(University or College Name) basketball", you are good to go. If there is one already, you can edit that one, or go back a step and make a page for a new team.
- Go here and create your article using the format: University Nickname basketball (e.g. Duke Blue Devils basketball or North Carolina Tar Heels basketball).
- However, note that some schools have different nicknames for their men's and women's teams. A few examples are Arkansas, Georgia, Hawaiʻi, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Old Dominion, Tennessee, and Texas Tech.
- Do some research (but don't just copy + paste from there)! Look up as much as you can on the team, coaches, players, stadium, the atmosphere, history, important games - whatever you can find!
- Start to write. When writing, make sure to use internal links wherever appropriate. For things like Stadium, give a brief overview, and in the beginning, after the heading, write something like: Main Article: [[Stadium Name]]. Make sure to cover at least the following sections:
-
- Overview (this should not be a ==Header== section, it should go before the article menu, a bit about the team + season, big players, definately the conference)
- Team History (seasons come and gone, national championships runups, best seasons, previous starts, etc. You can split this up).
- Stadium Information (if there is a main article for this, you can link to it as mentioned)
- Team's Season (information about previous season, tournament bids, conference games, injuries, major starts, etc. -- probably the biggest section, so you can split it up into things like:)
- Expectations
- Regular Season
- Conference Tournament and NCAA Tournament
- Current Roster (name, number, position, don't forget coaches)
- List of Notable Atheletes (former university players who are in NBA or retired, important, big impact)
- Here you can also create headings for sections related to specific universities - traditions, trivia sections, amazing stats. Be creative!
- 6. Make sure to put it in the category for that team (e.g. [[Category:Boston College Eagles basketball]]
You might have to watch out for already existing articles - for example, there is a Boston College Eagles page already made - maybe you could move most of the men's basketball section to a new Boston College Eagles basketball section, and keep an overview on the old page and a link to the new one. Try to also see if you can upload a team's logo under fair use.
[edit] Goals
[edit] Adopt An Article
If you are interested in creating an article that hasn't been made yet, try adopting an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if at all possible) for either a non-existent college basketball team. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles.
Just write your name, and the name of the team you are working on, and begin!
- None currently. Edit if you undertake one.
[edit] Requested Articles

[edit] Requested Pictures
Want to see if anyone has a picture of a certain team or stadium or can find one? Ask here.
- None currently.
[edit] Templates
- To be created: Template with links to conferences + final four and other CBB stuff.
- Suggestion for one? Use the talk page!
- {{Infobox NCAA Athlete}}: Put this on athletes' pages
- {{WikiProject College basketball}}: Stick this on talk pages to identify articles as a part of the project.
- {{User WikiProject CBB}}: Userbox for userpages.
- {{Collegebasketball-stub}}: General stub template.
- {{Infobox CBB Team}}: Team Infobox.
- {{College coach infobox}}: College coach infobox
- {{College Basketball Interest}}: Box for interested parties of College football - recruiting box
[edit] User Box
If you are interested in having a userbox in your userpage, typing {{User College Basketball WikiProject}} will produce:
So go ahead, put that in your userpage!

[edit] Frequently Asked Questions
Is this just for men's college basketball or women's as well? It's mostly for men's, but if you want to do women's, do it by all means! You might want to make the article something like "University Nickname women's basketball" though.
Can I do player articles or just teams? At the moment, the main focus is on getting articles done for the major conference teams. After that is done, however, we'll be looking towards editing player articles and keeping them to a certain standard.
