Talk:Wikipe-tan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you are trying to find information on Wikipe-tan, see Wikipedia:Wikipe-tan.

Perhaps the page should be redirected, then protected. But, that's just my opinion. Sakura Avalon 22:16, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Already decided against that. Ashibaka tock 16:58, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
Why not instead of redirecting, put a dab note? --Howard the Duck 14:35, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Ashibaka, why did you decided against redirecting? Give an intelligent reason and we can vote on the matter. --Erisie 21:54, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
That's not how Wikipedia works. This is not an encyclopedic subject, it does not belong in the encyclopedia space, and no one in the encyclopedia space should be directed into Wikipedia space. —Centrxtalk • 22:10, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Check out the CSB dab for example, at the top appears, On Wikipedia, CSB is also an acronym for WikiProject Countering systematic bias. Lets do that here, too. --Howard the Duck 01:49, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
No, that doesn't belong either, though it is majorly different, as an acronym with several possible meanings, versus a neologism that would need a page created for it just for the self-reference to exist. —Centrxtalk • 01:52, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
How about cleanup? It redirects to Wikipedia:Cleanup resources. --Howard the Duck 02:31, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Until last week, that was targetted at Cleanliness. —Centrxtalk • 02:43, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Since you corrected it already, the people who'll look up for Wikipe-tan will end up here, it will be a disservice if there will be no link to Wikipedia:Wikipe-tan. I agree it shouldn't be redirect to Wikipedia namespace, but at least a link should be given. Like "For the Wikipedia mascot, see Wikipedia:Wikipe-tan." I don't see why any reason it shouldn't be linked, especially when cleanup has a dab note already. --Howard the Duck 05:08, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
I second HtD's ideas. Wikipedia is crammed with things that don't strike you as 'encyclodpaedic' but nevertheless they are there because this is the -I'm almost certain- widest reliable base of human knowledge in the world. It's perfectly possible that someone will search for wikipe-tan here -after all, it's not going to be well documented *anywhere* else, even in something like OS tan collection. Thus it is only fair that this knowledge is made easily accesible to people unfamiliar with Wkipedia's self-referential compartments. It's only a dab note anyway -what harm would cause to let people know where they can find out about this? -Zepheriah 14:18, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Check out the CSB dab for example, at the top appears, On Wikipedia, CSB is also an acronym for WikiProject Countering systematic bias. Lets do that here, too, by Howard the Duck. It doesn't. But you're more right than Centrx & Ashibaka. Let's remember that an image of Wikipe-tan was a Featured Image less than a month ago. Not redirecting is a misservice. --Erisie 16:44, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Yes, WP:CSB appeared but it was removed. I'm not a fan of redirects from the mainspace to the Wikipedia: namespace but a link should be added. I don't see a reason why we shouldn't do that. --Howard the Duck 05:06, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Actually, the page (now?) had a link to Wikipedia:Wikipe-tan so I'm quite satisfied already. Can anyone boldface it, so that the reader will be alerted. Thanks. --Howard the Duck 12:46, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
