Wier

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wier is a fairly uncommon surname in the United States. It traces ancestry from the Weir clan in Scotland. The name is based on the original spelling, but has been Americanized by classically placing 'i' before 'e.' This was most likely done to avoid discrimination present against immigrants in the early 1800s.

The Scottish version of this name is based on the word weir.
