WHLK

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

WHLK (93.1 FM) and WSLK (106.7 FM) are radio stations serving the Madison, Wisconsin area. WHLK is licensed to De Forest, Wisconsin and covers most of Dane County, while WSLK is licensed to Mt Horeb, Wisconsin and covers Western Dane County and most of Iowa County. The stations are owned by Mid-West Management, Inc., and simulcast a classic rock format under the moniker "The Lake," billing themselves as "Everything Classic... On Shuffle."

[edit] History

WHLK is the older of the two stations, signing on in July 2003 under the WHIT call letters. While testing its signal, the station aired themes from various classic TV shows under the moniker "TV93" before launching into "timeless rock" as "93.1 The Lake" on July 25, 2003. The first song played was "Rock'n Me" by Steve Miller.

In October 2005, Mid-West Management, Inc. began testing the 106.7 FM signal under the call letters WYZM, airing smooth jazz music normally heard on sister station WMGN during its "Magic Sunday Morning" program.

On December 1, 2005, WYZM began simulcasting WHIT's classic rock format, and the two stations became jointly identified as "The Lake at 93-1 and 106-7." The stations would adopt their current call letters that same month (WHIT changing to WHLK, WYZM changing to WSLK).
