Whittemore is a city in Kossuth County, Iowa, United States. The population was 530 at the 2000 census.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 530 people, 229 households, and 135 families residing in the city. The population density was 487.2/km² (1,268.3/mi²). There were 250 housing units at an average density of 229.8/km² (598.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.62% White, and 0.38% from two or more races.
There were 229 households out of which 29.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.7% were married couples living together, 5.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 41.0% were non-families. 38.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 25.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.9% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 16.2% from 45 to 64, and 25.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $31,111, and the median income for a family was $37,031. Males had a median income of $30,104 versus $17,500 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,669. About 2.8% of families and 6.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.0% of those under age 18 and 10.8% of those age 65 or over.

Whittemore has two parks, Noah Park and Siems Park. Noah Park, centrally located, features a playground with slides and swings and a baseball diamond. Siems Park is located approximately two miles outside of town and features fishing, camping, a shelterhouse and a small playground.
The Whittemore community pool is open during the summer months. Group and private swimming lessons are offered.
