Whitfield County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. It was created on December 30, 1851. It is part of the Dalton, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2000, the population was 83,525. The 2005 Census Estimate shows a population of 90,899. The county seat is Dalton, Georgia6.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 753 km² (291 mi²). 751 km² (290 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it (0.23%) is water.

As of the census² of 2000, there were 83,525 people, 29,385 households, and 22,156 families residing in the county. The population density was 111/km² (288/mi²). There were 30,722 housing units at an average density of 41/km² (106/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 80.94% White, 3.85% Black or African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.92% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 12.01% from other races, and 1.90% from two or more races. 22.05% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 29,385 households out of which 36.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.50% were married couples living together, 10.80% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.60% were non-families. 20.60% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.24.

In the county the population was spread out with 27.30% under the age of 18, 10.00% from 18 to 24, 30.80% from 25 to 44, 21.50% from 45 to 64, and 10.30% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 101.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $39,377, and the median income for a family was $44,652. Males had a median income of $30,122 versus $23,709 for females. The per capita income for the county was $18,515. About 8.60% of families and 11.50% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.70% of those under age 18 and 11.70% of those age 65 or over.
